Halo: Reach trailer

Snakes on a space station.

Is this post intentionally supposed to be better than the trailer?

Even one of your posts would be better than the trailer.

Is it me or are they going for bigger armours, in order to capture a share of the Gears of War big shiny metal armour lovers niche ?

In other words : yawn.

Why do people call it a trailer when it’s no such thing. It’s a first look at the game, probably an early cut-scene.

It looks to be a class based game.

That it does. You obviously have the Big Guy/Heavy Weapons Dude, the Chick/Sniper, the Normal Dude/Soldier, etc.

A squad game was expected from bungie since they hired the guy from Ubisoft Raibow Six games to be a lead designer.

Looks like the fall of 2010 will be crowed with shooters, Medal of Honor, Halo Reach, Spec Ops and the not yet announce but probable Call of Duty 7 , Gears 3 and Resistence 3.

Yeah, gotta say, that trailer was a complete failure. I got bored, during the trailer! And I like Halo! How does that happen? It just felt uber generic, with nothing interesting happening or even being discussed for that matter, and the shiny armor is just annoying, who the hell attempts to fight in shiny armor?

Gears 3 probably not coming in 2010 as Microsoft isn’t likely to stack it against the Halo game. They have been pretty smart about only having one or the other in any given year.

Yeah, same here. I love Halo, but not only was that trailer boring, it didn’t even make it clear that this Halo game was supposed to be about different classes. And it definitely didn’t try to lure us in with a story of any kind.

It wouldn’t be a problem to have Halo: Reach in September and Gears 3 in November. And it’s not like they’ve been “smart about it” since the previous releases have come pretty natural (unless ODST was finished in 2008).

Edit:

That’s because… it’s not a trailer! It’s just some opening cinematic.

They didn’t? Every soldier’s armor was different than any other soldiers. You’ve got your crazy CQB soldier with a skull painted onto his faceplate sharpening a knife on his armor. You’ve got the sniper with a quick wit that welcomes the new guy to the 6 man squad. And you’ve got the leader. And that’s only 3 of the six seen!

And it’s a first look. Look back at every halo release so far. not a single one’s first look had any bit of substance other than the Master Chief.

I’d disagree that it didn’t make it clear that this was supposed to be about different classes and the game was team based. The visual cues were obvious and certainly put there for a reason and what little dialog there was totally reinforced it.

I’d agree with the lack of story lure comments with the caveat that they seem to expect you to be aware of the story of Reach already, which I’m vaguely familiar with, enough to know the big elements, but I guess for people who have no exposure to the expanded universe Halo stuff the sneak peek has no real story anchor, yet.

Having no Master Chief, and most importantly, no HALO MAIN THEME, is an automatic negative for any Halo-related marketing. ODST overcame this with that really strong (IMO) “We Are ODST” commercial. Reach has certainly not overcome this yet, but the game is still a year away so I’ll give them some more time to woo me.

I thought all the trailers from VGA were boring except for the Batman trailer and only that was exciting because it was more batman. Most everything else was some take from Modern Warfare.

Here’s the press release:

Step into the boots of a Spartan III and prepare for the first look at “Halo: Reach,” the highly anticipated prequel to the “Halo” trilogy from acclaimed developer Bungie coming fall 2010. The very first “Halo: Reach” video had its worldwide debut last night during the Spike TV Video Game Awards by actress Tricia Helfer, offering gamers a taste of the story to come.

Taken from part of the game’s opening cinematic, the video provides the first look at the story of “Halo: Reach,” which introduces players to Noble Team, a squad of battle-hardened Spartan soldiers. “Halo: Reach” charts the story of Noble Team in their heroic stand to defend the planet Reach, its people and secrets against a ruthless assault by an alien collective known as the Covenant.

“Halo: Reach” is being published by Microsoft Game Studios and launches in the fall of 2010 exclusively on Xbox 360. The “Halo: Reach” multiplayer beta is coming spring 2010, which players can access exclusively through “Halo 3: ODST.”

The “Halo: Reach” video is available now on Xbox LIVE and Bungie.net. Press only (do not publish the URL): for .wmv files and a screen shot from the “Halo: Reach” video, go to: http://edelman.psni.com/public/Halo%20Reach/

I like the last part: “do not publish the URL”. Oops. But at least we got a screenshot out of it:

I thought the trailer made it very clear it’s a squad based game. “I’m happy to have your skill set. But you can forget about that Lone Wolf stuff.” And so on.

So, do you play Master Chief (John 117)? At Reach he would have had the earlier Mark III armor, so that’s why he looks different. And maybe he had the lower rank then? Anyone know enough of the Halo lore to clue me in?

That’s all in-engine, though. And the looks like it’s either a wholly new engine, or they at least did some serious work on the lighting part.

Probably not. The few names shown in the teaser—Carter-259, Kat-320 and Jorge-052—were never mentioned in Fall of Reach. Or if they were, they weren’t part of the Chief’s squad.

Master Chief was never on reach. He and 3-4 others stayed in space, and all died (One was stuck in cryo I guess), and were stuck on Pillar of Autumn.
