Hard Times at Douglass High: A No Child Left Behind Report Card

This just came out on HBO recently. It’s pretty depressing no matter where you fall on this question. I thought it was more or less evenhanded to its subjects, letting assholes be assholes on camera. Unfortunately, none of the people who could really have system-level responsibility for the situation are involved, but that’s the price of the micro-level documentary. The conclusions you can draw about NCLB are no less murky afterwards, but the snapshots are worthwhile.

Thanks for pointing this out. I’m going to try to hunt it down. NCLB has been a major cluster of fudge since it started, and the apathy of the people who got to go to good schools is appalling.

It’s tough to find, I recommend inviting yourself to a friend’s house with On Demand.

Won’t netflix get it eventually?

Probably, but HBO is really, really slow about DVDs sometimes.
