We have the same basic setup: Vita with 8GB, P4G on cartridge slot, P3P downloaded on the 1st page. You will have around 6GB left for other games. I’ve got around 12 loaded, including 2 biggies (Soul Sacrifice, Tactic Ogre).
…which is basically saying that you will play another game…I’m stalled grinding P3P and P4G for months now.
That’s probably true for a lot of folks - myself included, in fact. :)
That’s actually good to hear - I had some reservations that the 8GB might be too small, but I don’t particularly mind swapping stuff out here and there as necessary. As long as I’ve got room for permanent spots for Lumines and TxK, maybe a little Tactics Ogre, I’ll be made in the shade. The more I look at the Vita library, the more I like what I see…
I am so close to the end of Virtue’s Last Reward, thanks to my week and counting of computer troubles, and let me tell you, it is a fantastic ride. Well worth experiencing. It’s very impressive how user friendly their flowchart structure is, complete with specific jump points for key information you may need in another path. And the funny thing is, that sort of thing may seem metagamey and yet…
I’m actually a huge fan of visual novel type games, and particularly anything by Shu Takumi. There was another one for the DS that I remember enjoying too, but the name escapes me now. I think it was Hotel Dusk?
So VLR is definitely on the radar, but I do remember reading at some point that it’s a direct sequel to 999. Is it worth going though that one first?
Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Virtue’s Last Reward are absolutely both worth playing, and you’ll benefit greatly from having played the first game, but it’s not 100% vital; you’ll miss out on some character relationships and callbacks, basically.
If you don’t have a DS handy, there’s an excellent LP of 999 here that’s how I wound up experiencing a good chunk of the story. Basically, I did play it and I did a few different routes, but I got so tired of doing the same early content over and over that I didn’t end up pursuing it to the close. Fortunately, VLR’s flowchart system means you only ever have to do any given section once, so that’s been a much less repetitive experience. (If you don’t get both safe passwords on a first pass, or don’t initially complete an escape on hard, you might want to go back to one for completionism but it’s still very painless.)
I think you absolutely should play 999 first if you can. Play blind a few times and after you get a few bad endings look up the flowchart on GameFaqs. If the third game ever gets made, some critical aspects and characters from the first game will feature heavily into it. Too bad a third game happening doesn’t seem too likely though :(.

I got really lucky with my decisions in 999 and was able to get to the true ending in two playthroughs. Still need to go back and read summaries of the other endings just to make sure I know what happened before jumping into VLR. Someday.
Anyone play the iOS version of 999? Is it exactly the same? The name is slightly different, but I don’t know if that means anything.
The iOS version removes the gameplay entirely, leaving just the novel parts. I guess it’d do if you don’t have a DS or 3DS…
Just finished (and platinumed) VLR. Holy shit.

64 GB on my 1st Gen Vita = Happy working professional. Carrying my black bundle of digital joy with nearly 90% of my gaming library inside the device is so liberating.
I tried to wait for the 64GB cards. I really did, but then Gamestop blew out the 32GB cards for $40 last year, breaking my resolve. I probably need a 128GB card for my whole collection now anyway.
If you can’t wait, you can go to the sony store and see the sizes of each game. TxK, for example, is only 102 MB..
Is the gameplay good? Or is it just something to fill in between the narrative parts, like combat in Dark Premonition or something?
They’re basically room escape puzzles. I wasn’t that excited by them myself but they’re not bad.
Got home yesterday to find a present waiting for me! My initial impression was simply “damn, that’s a small memory card.” It’s like a memory card for ants.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have too much time last night to really put it through its paces. I did pop into P4G for a bit just to see how it looked…and any doubts I had about the screen’s image quality flew out the window. It looks great. The new model also feels a bit more comfortable than what I remember the OG model feeling like. So I’m a happy camper :)
Yaaaaaaaaay! And yeah the memory cards are teeeeeeny.

I just have to chime in here and say how well the Vita works on remote play. I am ridiculously excited for a PS4 version of Disgaea.
