I also think it is people looking for original titles or platform exclusives. Lately the Vita has seen an embarrassment of riches regarding great little indie games that have been ported from other platforms. In many cases I would argue that the Vita is THE platform for these games…titles like Spelunky work best on the Vita since if I am at my PC or console I would rather dive into a meatier long-form game. If you already own a Vita your library has ballooned with a fantastic influx of ports (which is a great thing).
For those that don’t already own a Vita, they are just seeing a long list of announcements for games they may already have our could acquire on a system they do own.

One of the lesser known features of the Vita is that it serves as a handheld WiFi network tester. It has told me where exactly I can and can’t game via remote play. At one point I was even carrying around my iPad and running bandwidth testing apps to gauge why the Vita was so finicky. Left side of bed, okay… Right side a pixelated mess. Sit on this cushion of the couch, but not that one. It was weird. It also seems to only like to connect via wifi on my router rather than directly to the PS4 even when I try to force it in settings when I am sitting right in front of it.
Judging from the feedback I have read concerning remote play performance, I have strongly considered improving my WiFi setup. I was right about to do it, but my current game rotation is not involving the PS4. I am guessing that once PvZ:GW or Destiny hit then I will once again be researching wifi hardware options that will not only give me solid house wide remote play, but also bump my cancer risk and allow me to cook frozen dinners in minutes by just leaving them on the counter.

Clearly I’m a hoarder. I have 2GB free on a 64GB card…
Don’t worry, right now I’m just setting new high scores on the tables where Brad Grenz has topped you anyway. :)
And I just discovered that the Vita got a proper version of Super Stardust, i.e. with twin stick controls unlike the rather sad PSP version. Bought!
Super Stardust Delta is really cool. I think it’s better than the PS3 incarnation.
Everyone else…look into my avatar…mooooo…baaaaa…
From early impressions I might agree. I see they reduced the weapon count to two but now really require you to switch during levels. The three weapons in the PS3 version were largely cosmetic in that levels were mostly monothematic and any weapon worked decently enough against anything. That’s definitely no longer the case.
Also, I just research TxK and discovered that it’s a sequel to Tempest 2000 by the same developer, which surprisingly was Llamasoft. I had no idea Jeff Minter was behind that game. Bought!

Tomorrow should see the release of One Piece. I’m thinking if I should go day 1 or wait for a sale.
Depends on how big of a One Piece and Monster Hunter fan you are. The game seems designed to capture the overlap between the two fanbases, but I haven’t seen much about whether or not it’s any good at doing so.

Big fan of the Manga, not much of a MH fan, but I did like Toukiden so it might be a plus.

Finally caved in and bought a Vita last week. I think the memory cards are still stupidly expensive, but I’m leaving on a long trip next month and wanted some new gaming goodness that I can carry with me.
The unit I bought came bundled with a 8GB card which I’ll be using with my EU PSN and I ordered a 64GB card to use with the Japanese PSN. I haven’t bought any games yet, and I’m not sure I’ll ever have to, as I have decent pile from PS+. I’m currently playing
[ul]
[li] Dragon’s Crown[/li][li] Gravity Rush[/li][li] Guacamelee![/li][li] New Little King’s Story[/li][li] Touch My Katamari[/li][li] Doki-Doki Universe[/li][li] Sine Mora[/li][/ul]
Dragon’s Crown and Gravity Rush have been my favorites so far, but I think the Japanese PS+ has had a much better and larger selection of PSP/Vita games, so hopefully the 64GB card arrives soon. Some highlights:
[ul]
[li] Soul Sacrifice (this is available from EU PS+ as well, but I’ll save it for the larger memory card)[/li][li] 勇者のくせになまいきだ。: aka. the weirdly translated “Holy invasion of privacy Badman!”. I never played this during the PSP era, so I’m glad I get to play it now.[/li][li] Patapon[/li][li] STEINS;GATE: The anime is one of my all time favorites, so I’m really looking forward to playing this.[/li][li] CHAOS;HEAD NOAH: From the same developer as STEINS;GATE, although the plot isn’t as interesting.[/li][li] Time Travelers: No idea if this is good or not, but the description sounds intriguing and I’m a sucker for plots involving time travel.[/li][li] 英雄伝説VI 空の軌跡: aka. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. A decent looking JRPG.[/li][li] 地球防衛軍3: aka. Earth Defense Force. I enjoyed the previous incarnations of this series, so I’m looking forward to trying this one.[/li][li] 極限脱出ADV 善人シボウデス: aka. Virtue’s Last Reward, the sequel to 999.[/li][li] Jet Set Radio[/li][li] Demon Gaze[/li][/ul]
I’m also hoping that Valkyrie Chronicles 2 & 3 end up on the PS+ list in the future or get discounted.
I had no idea STEINS;GATE was out for anything other than PC. At least the translated version. Is there an English version on the Vita too?

Only the PC version has been translated so far. There are Japanese versions for the PS3, PS Vita, PSP, Xbox360 and even iOS/Android.
There was a rather hacky and poor fan translation patch for the iOS version of Steins;Gate, but it required jailbreaking, and wasn’t worth the effort in any regard. I’d love to see official English versions on other platforms like Vita someday, but I don’t expect it any time soon, at least not from JAST USA, who seems to have no interest in transitioning to other release platforms.
I’ve generally felt that Japan’s PS+ lineup is weak compared to the western lineups, but Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable and Virtue’s Last Reward (which was also in the US and EU PS+ lineups a while back) are top-notch, and I’m still quite interested in playing Demon Gaze at some point.
I’m still enjoying Ragnarok Odyssey ACE. I like the improvements to the weapon systems; skill level-ups are no longer random, instead being tied to weapon skill tickets that can be acquired in a number of ways. There are also the new Halomonas weapons, which aren’t tied to the standard refinement system, and instead evolve based on which quests you choose to complete for them. The new ACE Skill system is also a great change, though I’ve only tried two classes so far. Rather than having to charge up certain skills like the cleric’s Sanctuary and interrupt your regular combat flow, you now equip various class-specific active skills that are mapped to L plus a face button, and along with whatever effect they have, they can also be used as an instant cancel for various animations, including other ACE Skills.
I can vouch for Chaos;Head being pretty great.
Doesn’t PS+ in Japan get you access to tons of PS1 classics, too?

Is Chaos;head or Steins;gate available on the PSN store? I can’t find them there.

Damn. Oh well, thanks for the info, though.
