Hah, whoops. I honestly didn’t notice they were missing that text.

But…you can get your own 11/11 if you play those guys yourself and get them killed, since they’ll have died earlier. (At least you’d better kill them, or they’ll be beating your face in.) I got through this one with a Warlock…mulligan until I got a Corruption in the opening, then just try to trade minions with maximum advantage until his board is clear. I ended up getting two Thaddius in the game I won. Took a few tries to get a workable opening, but pretty simple as heroic bosses go.

Haha, I put together a Mage deck for my dailies, and Loatheb + Duplicate is hilarious. Basically completely shut down your opponent for 3+ turns,

Finally got past heroic Gluth after about a dozen tries using a Mage, with of course all the weapon-kill available…two ooze and a Harrison. As usual, the key was to get lucky with the draw. Gluth didn’t draw his weapon until turn 5, and by then I had an ooze in hand, and then I got a well-timed Flamestrike to wipe his side of the board on turn 7. He still got me down to 4 before I managed to get to the point where he was stuck playing only whatever he drew each turn. Was back up over 15, though, by the time I killed him due to all the Zombie Chow he played.

Most fun deck i played in a while in arena, 12-1 with priest!

My favorite moments mind control on death wing, knife juggler/haunted creeper combo’s and cabal shadow priest controlling a taunted nerubian egg :)

PSA: Some Windows 8 users (/wave) are having weird problems with Hearthstone that make Windows/Windows Explorer unresponsive.

Don’t do like I do and nuke your system drive from orbit. Even if I am, currently, feeling sure.

Yep, they fucked it up after the latest patch. Have the same issue on 3 different Windows 8 systems. To get around it set compatibility mode for the Battle.net client to Windows 7. Not sure what the hell they did because the only other game in the years I’ve been using Windows 8 that actually had a Windows 8 specific problem was Hotline Miami, and Hearthstone USED to work fine.

slantz, I’m playing around with a variation of your surviv-adin deck, and it’s pretty interesting. I’ve had to make a number of tweaks to make up for gaps in my card list, but even with that I feel like I have the same general theme going. Biggest changes are tossing in a Frostwolf Warlord, Stormwind Champion, and Sea giant, basically just synergizing with having a lot of minions on the board. Also, a divine favor because I got into a couple of protracted battles where I was reduced to top-decking forever (and I don’t have lay on hands).

Every time I try a new deck concept, I feel like I have a string of good luck which makes me think “this is great! I really have something going, here…” before getting smacked down again.

I think I may have to resign myself to the fact that I’m just not very good at this game. I bounce around the 16-18 range in ranked, but it probably isn’t lack of cards, since I similarly stink up the arena (usually get ballpark 2-3 wins). I even tried “cheating” by drafting with an arena card ranking guide open, but got basically the same results. I should probably try one of the F2P legend decks and see if I can pilot a pre-made deck absent even my own card valuation, but I’m not too optimistic there either.

Probably part of my problem is that I’m just not very good at vicarious problem solving in general, and I definitely don’t sit down to think about what my opponent is likely to have in his hand / likely to play in the next turn beyond some very basics. Part of the problem there being that it seems like most decks have a pretty solid strategy / mana curve built in , so even if I know exactly what my opponent’s going to do, I can’t figure out a more optimal play than the one I would’ve made anyways.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever tried the Warlock Zoo deck? It’s has quite a strong match-up against almost any class (with the exception of hunter). It uses mostly basic cards and (supposedly) can get you quite far in the rankings.

3 wins in the Arena isn’t “stinking it up”. Its good result. Especially since many of your opponents have been playing the game since the beta and you are trying to catch up. Also with 2-3 wins the prizes you get from 2 arenas (cost 300 gold) will roughly equal buying 3 packs of cards (300 gold). What really improved my play was watching Trump on Youtube. I pause between plays and choose what I would do, then play and watch what he does. There are other streamers you can watch, but Trump is a very accessible starting point because his videos are heavily edited (no waiting between turns or between games).

I’ve been messing around with a Shaman Deathrattle deck that, so far, is insanely fun to play. Even when it doesn’t “click”, it’s still competitive as a zoo deck at the least.

I just can’t seem to make a druid deck work. I’ve tried them in arenas, tried making various kinds of decks, and I just can’t get a feel for them. Sure, I win games, but usually it feels like I lucked in to a win as opposed to actually won because my deck and play were superior. I think it’s the general lack of combos and subtlety; they play more like a brute force bull-rush than I enjoy. Mage, as well, I can win with consistantly but don’t really enjoy for some reason.

If I had one complaint, it would be that the game has moved too far towards speed. The 10-mana cards are dead weight 90% of the time. The majority of the games seem to wrap up between turns 6 - 8.

I only just unlocked all the Warlock basics recently, since he doesn’t really fit my preferred playstyle. I suppose I should give it a try though.

Based on what I’ve seen, it seemed like I need 4+ wins to be equivalent to buying packs (i.e. 1 pack + 50 gold). Maybe I haven’t estimated the prize pools out properly though.

Thanks for the tips, I’ll take a look at Trump’s Youtube stuff.

There is a prize range at each win level. At as few as 2 wins, you can get 50 gold to make it essentially a “break even” compared to buying a pack directly. Once you get to 4+ wins, it’s almost always profitable compared to a direct pack purchase (unless you get a really bad role and get 40 gold + 1 common card).

I second watching Trumps arena runs

I don’t play much constructed but being solid in arena should help greatly

Good lord, and I thought I was being cheesy just by having a list of relative card valuations open!

Any idea what their algorithm is like? Seems like they have a couple different valuations available under options. Does it update based on what you’ve already selected, or is it just a mapping of those valuation charts.

Adjusting based on what you’ve chosen is pretty heavy number crunching…but if you had a large enough sample, you could get enough different decks in the DB that you could essentially just compare to the expected win rate of all decks that match your current partial deck.

Ofcourse you still need to evaluate cards on synergy for example, i only really use it for close calls.

I know they take into account mana curve (so yes, they do change valuation) and same amount of cards chosen (like 10 flamestrike)

Still, i’ve had amazing decks go 1-3 and the other way around.

A neat feature is to compare two cards and see what everyone picked over the other.

Those seem like pretty good switches. In fact, before I’d seen this, I just added a Sea Giant myself to experiment with. Frostwolf Warlord is also a very solid pick. I like Stormwind Champion too, but his price makes him less attractive that then other 6-8 cost alternatives IMO.

For what it’s worth, I did the same thing to hit Legendary in May, and I’m really glad I did. I personally used the Shockadin deck, and it really tought me a lot about what to expect from the grind, and a lot about legendary-capable decks. I’ve been gunning for legendary with my survivadin deck this month, but I’m stalled out around rank 8. So I’m taking a quick break to recharge – hopefully I can make a couple more ranks in my next burst.

Haha. I played 2 rounds of arena using basically the straight recommendations from that tool.

First time - 0 wins, which is of course terrible. Second time - 5 wins, which is about as well as I’ve ever done.

Pbbbt. RNG, man. Whatchagonnado?

I am officially tired of playing against miracle rogues. As I move up the ranks, they’ve been more and more common.

My shaman deathrattle deck has continued to be a winner for me more times than not. It feels cheesy, but it’s just too successful to stop playing (which is why I assume so many people continue playing miracle rogue decks). I’m sure there’s a better deathrattle deck out there on the web, but I prefer to cook my own meals before trying other people’s recipes.

More taunt would help against miracle rogue. Double sludge belcher is obvious since a sap is needed to cleanly remove him to make way for stupid Leeroy finishers, but depending on the rest of your deck you may want to slip in some more. Loatheb is another decent anti-miracle card since he can halt auctioneer cycling for a turn.
