Hellboy

Neat.

I was really looking forward to this one, but Ron Perlman’s makeup looks just awful… and David Hyde Pierce as Abraham Sapien? Are you kidding me?

This movie is going to kick you in the nuts and have you asking for more. Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman ride again!

The trailer looked really promising. well, except for the cheesy end on it.

The prmise looks cool, and so do the effects. If this turns out to be a rock-e’m sock-'em paranormal movie instead of a bunch of people posing and pointing (that firestarter chick looks like she might be animation challenged) it should be great.

Looks like fun to me. Remember fun?

Hey, unless it gets totally panned (Legion of Extraordinary Gentlemen, anyone?) I’ll be there. It looks cool.

Damn. I hate streaming media (and my Comcast connection roXXors)- is there anywhere I can just download this to show it to my friends? Already checked the movie site.

The end of the trailer was great. Classic Hellboy comic moment.
“Will you be alright?”
“Enh. How big could it be?”
<huge tentacle drags hellboy off into the darkness>

He’s always getting the ‘hell’ (pardon the pun) beat out of him in the comics. His main abilities seem to be endurance and perseverence. And, of course, a wry sense of humor about the whole demon thing.

yeah. Ron Perlman is THE man to play this character. Snarky, offensive, and devil-may-care attitude.

YAY!

The ending of that trailer is PERFECT Hellboy stuff, classic. I’m ecstatic.

I just hope he gets an ape to punch.

I was surprised by the David Hyde Pierce choice, but once I thought about it, he seemed right. Abe was always very refined! The only thing I’m worried about is Ron Perlman’s ability to speak clearly through the makeup–it sounded labored.

You’d think he would have learned to work around that after all those seasons of Beauty and the Beast…heh.

Every time I see him his speaking is mushy. Beauty and the Beast, slurring around a mouth full of metal teeth in Enemy at the Gates, etc.

I take it Hellboy is a comic property? Anyone want to provide an overview?

He’s a demon that was summoned from Hell by Nazis, but he fell into the hands of the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense instead. And now he’s basically the World’s Best Paranormal Investigator.

The last sound when Hellboy is being dragged away by the tenticular monster is completely ripped off from XCom!!

Well, technically he fell into the hands of some G.I.'s first, after he was summoned.

Thanks. I read the story with the changeling. It was pretty good. The explanation helps, too. The trailer had some pretty demonic looking stuff in it but then mixed with the government, polished-steel corridors and what looked like psionic people of some kind I wasn’t sure what it was.

The movie looks to take most of its plot from the “Wake the Devil” storyline involving Rasputin, why Hellboy was summoned, etc.

Also he likes pancakes and hates his horns.
