I re-watched last night and caught a small tidbit where Peter’s mom basically tells Claire that she saved Peter from death with her power. This is before the finale, but the implication was that he will blow up, and he will live. So that leaves Peters death as wide open as Sylar.

I think the biggest problem with the finale was the net effect was pretty low. They save New York at what cost? Maybe a loss of Nathan? That’s it? Pretty lame if you ask me and so very like Lost. Either they don’t want to write people out due to contract, or they are stringing the viewers along with little to no resolution in a major climax of the plot. Not what I was expecting after such a spectacular season start.

I think she may have just been telling Claire what she wanted to hear, but yeah, Peter’s status is up in the air (heh).

They could have done a lot more to make it more dramatic, like when Peter went boom, they should have made the blast louder and a bit larger. Then they should have shown New York’s reaction to it: a crane shot tracking right of people opening their windows, pedestrians looking up into the sky, people stopping their cars and getting out to look, etc, with dissolves in between them. Maybe add a couple of close ups for good measure.

All the while, instead of Mohinder’s little dialog have one of Nathan’s speeches over the city’s reaction. Then as the speech nears its end, the camera zooms out from its position showing the blast from space. Then as the blast fades and the speech ends, fade to black. Then run the credits and show Hiro’s season 2 preview after they finish.

Eclipses don’t usually come on so fast. Alien Ship, anyone? Filled with surprise package genes for the earth?

And Hiro is basically set to become Kensei (?) now, right? certainly not just sit there and watch.

I agree - where are all of the people that were being saved? This ain’t “28 Episodes Later” They should have had a bigger extras budget than just enough for EMTs and someone with a bloody mop (oh, and a cockroach handler).

Funny you should mention that. The one thing I found myself thinking throughout the episode (which I overall enjoyed, BTW) was “where are all the people?” I’ve been to New York, and it is a City That Never Sleeps. I don’t believe it’s possible to pass out in the middle of the road at any time of the day or night and have a little snooze without somebody walking past.

And the whole showdown in the Plaza? Not a single person happening by? That really was distracting for me. It was far too… set sterile.

I thought that too.

And I hate Mohinder’s monotonous monologues … they make me want to nod off. They take up valuable time and make the show seem pretentious. I can’t even remember what he said; it was all generic babbling about destiny, right? They should have had Molly do the final voiceover with something like “Even though the Petrelli brothers saved New York that night, it would never be the same again” or “From that point on, I knew my future would be linked with these other potently-powered people”.

Hey! Don’t rag on my cockroach transferance power theory! I spent a full 10 seconds coming up with it. It just so happens that both times that Sylar “died” the camera manages to focus on a roach. There’s something going on there, whether it be a power, or some kind of symbolism – the writers could be alluding to Sylar being harder to kill than a cockroach. Or he could be the Cockroach King himself.

I like Mordrak’s idea of using Nathan’s speech. Especially if he’s talking about how each of us do our part, etc.

Edit: Doh, that’s exactly what you said. I blame it on being tired. Hehe.

Love it. Although too much spare time on the hands.

Wait five hours, then google for “heroes geekiest thread on the internet.”

Nah, there’s a lot of places that are abandoned at night in NY. It’s not like Pittsburg where blockbuster closes at 8 PM, but walk around Chinatown past 11 PM. It gets pretty deserted in many streets. if you see some body on an alley, damned if you’re gonna approach it. It could crackhead passed out.

ed: Oh yeah, before I feel stupid. Kirby plaza doesn’t actually exist, does it? Kirby was some comic book writer, right?

I believe that the Sylar picture has just cemented this threat AS the geekiest.

We are doomed…doomed I say.

explain?!? I thought a big thrust of the show was that few people even know how any of this power shit works. Noone knows why.

Yeah. CCZ, despite his hatred for MMOs, is coming across as a WoW-forumite - NERF PETER! LOLS HIS TOOLTIP IS AMIGUOUS!!!

Yeah… I think the idea is that he’s a hard to kill vermin. Though in retrospect Sylar travelling about as a cockroach would kind of explain his mental state.

Remember back to the very first episode where Suresh is lecturing his class? He says he thinks the cockroach is the most evolved creature on earth. Doesn’t he say something like “I submit that god is a cockroach.”?

god = cockroach = sylar = god?!?!?!

Dear Christ how is it any of you think Peter is dead?

Five Years Later definitively established that Peter survives going nuclear. There’s nothing to discuss here - he’s alive! Period! End of story!

I don’t hate MMOs, I play WoW.

Kensei is Hiro’s dad. Didn’t you notice that was Sulu under the mask? Hiro’s dad power == Japanese Highlander.
