Heroes of the Storm, formerly Blizzard All-Stars, formerly DOTA

New Starcraft ranged specialist “Probius.” The starcraft probe, builds pylons.

Talents:

Hmmm, that will be interesting. Seems a bit like a Gazloe 2.0 though. Going to be great at lane pushing and farming, with some strong zoning via a turret. Not sure how it’ll do in a game that rewards constant rotations though.

They’re saying gaz’s revamp is in this patch, so that would make sense.

Wow, Probius was such a huge let down for me. I don’t love all the heroes, but I almost always get a sense of the fantasy they cater to. I assumed he’d be a “frantically build your base” hero. He gets one measly, meaningless turret. His pylons do nothing but regen his mana and provide a bit of vision (unless you take the once every 80 seconds ult). I’m sure in the right hands his warp rifts could make for a powerful mage build, but I would hope a drone/worker hero would have interesting forward base feel.

Yeah, watched Pallytime do some Theorycrafting and he seems… underwhelming other than a thing that happens at 20 which might get patched out where you can shotgun people for crazy damage. But that’s only at 20 and has nothing to do with pylons or the cannon.

The cannon, frankly, seems completely useless. You can’t target it, it doesn’t prefer heroes and it has a crazy long cooldown while also being fairly easy to kill and not doing much damage. And you get one of them. Two if you talent for it and fight a guy that stands in the cannon forever with no minions in the area (ie it wont happen).

Edit: All that said, his ability to nuke is really high, it just doesn’t seem to fit the concept everyone would assume from a “builder specialist”. His rifts are basically everything as far as I can tell. You can zone with them and do massive damage, but the building end of his kit is nearly non-existent.

He seems to be almost exclusively a solo-laner. I wonder if that’s going to be a new class of heroes (along with Gaz). A laner who can essentially hold a lane unless the opposing team makes a concerted effort to push them out. Problem is, if that turns out to be the case, your laner becomes dead weight once you get to the late stages of the match.

I’m predicting that Probius and Gaz 3.0 will end up in the same pool a Kerigan; heroes that only get played in niche situations on a one or two maps.

I dunno. New Gazlowe can be pretty dangerous now. I’d say his talent changes make him overall much scarier than he was before.

I haven’t had a chance to look at his new kit. I’m just talking out of my ass about him :) Making assumptions that he’ll be a melee-version of Probius, but it sounds like I’m wrong about that.

As a casual, I’m less concerned about the meta and more concerned about living the fantasy embodied by each hero. Probius does not feel like a builder or a worker. His playstyle doesn’t evoke my fond memories of peons and probes. They certainly got his animations and sounds right though.

I’m not a huge Gazlowe fan since he’s always been so clunky, but now being able to focus turrets baseline and the changes to robo goblin along with the huge range increase for his explosives feel pretty amazing.

Add an extra explosive charge with more damage and slowing turrets and he can take charge of an area like a raid boss. And the new talent that drops one at his feet if he’s rooted or stunned means he’s riskier to focus.

Full tnt build with that and slow turrets feels crazy strong.

I really need to find a group of regulars to play with. The folks I used to group with all the time have moved over to Overwatch, which I’m not a fan of. Been doing pugs lately, but they have been really hit-or-miss (usually miss). I’m not great at the game and I know it, so I don’t really need strangers telling me so every time they feel like it’s my fault that they are dying when they charge in to the front line as Chromie

Who are you on Battle.net?

Poor Tassadar’s Distortion Beam…

Huge update coming (HotS 2.0), along with a new ranged assassin, Cassia! She looks like a blast, but you have to keep her moving!

Hots 2.0: Overwatch

I like it.

And naturally people are bitching about more free stuff, because Blizzard fans and the internet.

Sounds pretty amazing to me.

Yeah, I see pretty much no downsides to this.

“You’re only giving us a max of 70 free crates? Literally Hitler.”

You don’t see the downside of a transition to randomized loot instead of guaranteed rewards and using a proprietary currency instead of actual money?
