Heroes of the Storm, formerly Blizzard All-Stars, formerly DOTA

So… as a player that has not looked into this for awhile… what do I need to do now and how long do I have to do it? Any suggestions on those big packs besides just grabbing the one that I have the least heroes for?

You need to do the big pack thing before Tuesday I think.

And personally I’d just grab the one with the most heroes.

They see things we miss mostly because they’re playing a fundamentally different game than we are. The idea that 1/4 of the heroes are basically useless in QM or sub-Diamond ranked matches is not likely to be most player’s experience. Very little is unworkable at that level because any map or hero deficiencies are swamped by the masses of errors and poor play by the players themselves.

Anyway, I like it because it’s fast and it’s a bit chaotic and it always feels on the knife’s edge, whether you’re ahead or behind. I actually wouldn’t mind if they slowed it down a little…maybe make it 9hp instead of 7.

They’re mostly based around giving you a lot of a particular role, so if you have a preference there (I much prefer support and specialist characters, for example, so that pack was great) that would be a good way to skew. Otherwise, yeah, just maximize your fresh character count. (For me I had at least six and as many as eight in all of them so I just went with what I liked.)

Grab the support pack, and did the tutorial to unlock the dwarf with hammer. Overall it feels easier than DOTA2 which I suck at.

Friend me if you wish.

Anyone up for completing the nexus challenge thing today? I lost track of that and now just have a day or two to complete it.

Edit: Hanamura has really put a damper on hots for me. I absolutely despise it- win or lose.

Had a fun bug where I was stuck playing vs. AI permanently in the Cursed Hallow map. For some reason, doing a ‘scan and repair’ in the battle.net launcher fixed it, despite the launcher saying there was nothing to fix (known bug for a year now, no response from Blizzard - lucky someone posted this suggestion).

Quite happy so far that I went with the support pack, and I have enough gold to pick up a few of the cheaper assassins to flesh out my roster. It is quite an embarrassment of riches with the new rewards system.

Looks like I need 5 VS AI fights with friends. Anyone up for some of that Monday PST evening time?

I’ll probably be available to play some with you then Chaplin if you still need them. Sorry i had to bail tonight. FWIW i may be streaming it

I play 3-5 bot games a night, so if you see me on, send me a join request

Logged in. Got my bundle of heroes. I picked the Flex Bundle. Opened a bunch of chests. Got a couple of skins, a bunch of emoticons, (why?) some hero lines, (what?) and sprays (huh?). Other than the skins, I have no idea what this stuff is for. Sprays in a MOBA? Is that a thing?

It is now.

It’s quite literally just the same things from Overwatch. It’s mostly non-intrusive and kind of stupid. I like the way you get skins, though.

I’m not gonna complain. Free is free, and I’m not a dedicated enough player to ever spend any money on this, so yay for me!

Man, Blizzard is slick. The production in their games is always top-notch. I’m always impressed by how they manage to turn the simple act of opening a loot chest into an epic explosion of effects and celebration even if all you get is a bunch of common garbage.

Loot boxes are the thing now. Blizzard took over the drip feed income of MMO subscriptions, then they mainstreamed digital card packs, and now loot boxes infest every game ever. It seems every company is looking at Overwatch and trying to figure out what useless crap they can toss into chests to get folks to chase skins or whatever.

Not that it was even close, or ever a serious question, but we gamers lost and lost big in the DLC/ micro transaction war. Horse armor is looking pretty good nowadays.

While I want to be smug and say something about “a fool and his money,” I don’t know of any LoL player, myself included, that didn’t spend considerably more than $60 on a “free” game. HotS was similar. Not so much with Overwatch or Hearthstone in my case, but I know folks that have gone nuts. As long as “free” is an option, people will feel good about falling over themselves to throw money away nowadays.

Thanks guys, I’ll try to catch some of you tonight. I’m actually curious to dip back in and see what’s happened with HotS…which is probably exactly what the Blizzard hive mind intended.

While I understand the hate of loot boxes, HotS is giving me a lot of free loot boxes. I went from 1 owned hero Friday to having 22 today. And enough gold to buy several more. I don’t even like MOBAs (hence why I never owned more than 1 before) and yet here I am playing now. GG Blizz.

This is so embarrassing to ask. I can’t figure out how to launch the game after it’s been installed. Can someone give me a hint?

I already tried the desktop shortcut, it just launches the Blizzard App thingie. And in the Blizzard app, when I left click on Heroes of the storm, it brings up an add about the Megabundle. If I right click on HoTS, it says “Move Up” and “Move Down”. If I click on the megabundle app, it just launches a browser. If I click “play now” in the browser page, it just downloads a little launcher app that tries to install the launcher I already have installed. If I click in the launcher where it says “Games”, that does nothing, since I’m already in games, apparently.

EDIT: I figured it out. In the corner where it makes fun of you for having zero friends? Click on the X. Once that’s out of the way, you can see that the Heroes of the Storm Megabundle thing is a box that can be closed with another X. Once the friends thing is out of the way, you can see this second X and click it, then you can see options for playing the game.

The art direction in this game is very interesting. I was wondering if I would like it, since I love the look of the Starcraft, Overwatch and Diablo universes, but I hate the look of the Warcraft universe. Well, guess what? This game tries to imagine what Starcraft, Overwatch and Diablo would look like with the Warcraft art style.

Ass, that’s what they look like. They look like ass. I didn’t think you could make Diablo characters look bad, but apparently you can.

You’re high. The art style is excellent. :-)
