So I had a shortcut To the forum on my android home screen and it’s fine now. My phone is acting funny lately, lagging and spazzing, so maybe I accidentally removed the icon.

Anyway I can’t remember how I got it there, only that it was a hassle the last time. There’s no Chrome settings button anywhere that I can see. Maybe it’s because I’m old.

Open the site in Chrome. Open the Chrome menu (3 dots), touch Add to Home Screen

Haha, he doesn’t know how to use the three dots.

aka The “kebab” menu.

Even before you added the link I knew what you were referencing. I guess I should have led with “What seems to be your boggle?”

This is what I see when I open the forum. How many dots do you see?

Jerks.

You should be able to pull down and see the chrome menu. If it doesn’t come up, then you’re already running the site as an app. It’s right next to the address bar on the right.

Well this at least was helpful. I didn’t know that I was using discord as a separate app. Is that a discourse or chrome feature?

Anyway I found the app icon in the apps folder and all is good now. And now to all of you:

Bit of both. Websites can present themselves to Chrome as, for lack of a more technical explanation, “appable.”

This is correct. The ability to “install” a website as an app is a feature of a progressive web app, but the ability to install a website that implements the feature is up to the browser/os.

Where did the bells come from? Is it a holiday thing? Or a wumpus thing? :)

Discourse was misbehaving so I restarted it. Sorry for the downtime. Please @clay me here if it continues.

Hey, I finally ran into the “slow down” request!

Thanks to a bunch of failed json requests when trying to browse just now. Refreshing was more or less working until the site got mad at me.

I’m getting a fair amount of errors today, 429, TRY AGAIN, missing link (i think that’s what it said), and mystery unread posts that aren’t there.

Same here. Reloading helps but they seem to be frequent.

I’ve never seen 429 too many requests errors myself, but they could be linked to rate-limiting on Cloudflare. I just made a change and rebuilt the forum container, let me know if they still show up.

Had a brief Cloudflare, “down” message, back up and seems okay so far, stusser.

Yes that was me rebuilding it.

Stusser caused my outage!
