Yeah, I guess their app uses huge fonts for some reason.

If you figure out an improvement to that column, send the CSS to @Clay and we’ll take a look.

Part of the issue with the column widths is that the remote components are overriding our own theme’s customization. Half the unused space in those screenshots is actually from the poster column.

Are we taking about how this website no longer renders correctly on my phone?

It’s very slightly too wide now, such that it cuts off about half of a character on the edge.

See below:

Note, i can then scroll the screen left or right to see the whole thing if i want to.

Why do we need the Category column as compared to putting the category below each topic title? That’s how it’s presented in a mobile device, so I don’t think it’s distracting.

People complained when discourse changed it awhile back. With the category below each topic it fit less on the page.

Can someone tell me why Discourse is giving me a notification every time someone edits their own post in the Super Tuesday thread over in the Politics subforum? Just started doing it last night. Is that normal behavior?

BTW, the posts aren’t in reply to me nor do they tag me in any way. The notifications show the pencil icon and not the reply one. I am “Watching” the topic.

Because you are watching, instead of tracking, I think. See the description difference when you switch between the 2.

But I always “watch” topics I’m interested in, and this is the first time Discourse has ever done this. It normally just notifies about topic replies for watched topics and quotes of/replies to my posts, plus name checks. Maybe it’s a new Discourse “feature.”

Don’t think so. I started the Falconeer topic a while ago. Because I’m watching it instead of tracking it, I have always been getting a notification for every reply. Doesn’t have to be to me. And edits are considered like new replies, I believe.

Maybe it’s new, but I’m pretty sure it’s the reason I pretty much never watch topics and track them instead.

Yeah any changes generate a notification. I never watch anything.

Is there a way to erase my tracker history in a given thread so I can restart tracking my spot from the beginning? There’s a couple of threads I’d like to read now that I’m playing the respective games, but since I’ve already read the most recent posts I’m not sure how to keep my place in the thread.

Thanks!

If that’s the case, the Super Tuesday topic is literally the first time I’ve ever seen individual notifications of post edits. Maybe people don’t normally edit their posts and that thread was the wild exception? There were eight or nine of them.

Still having problems on my Kindle in Chrome. But I did discover that if I rotate to landscape mode and then back to portrait that the clickable message count shows up for that particular thread. It disappears again when I move to a new thread but I can get it to show up by switching to landscape and back again. Only happens in Chrome, Firefox is fine. Weird - hope they fix it eventually.

Hahahah. I wish. That would be wonderful for us, but I think it’s completely antithetical to the developers of discourse.

I know @wumpus has self-quarantined from QT3 for a while, but I wanted to thank him again for the beauty that is Discourse. I have tried reading other forums I frequented in the past to see what they think about the pandemic and a) the signal/noise ratio is much worse, especially after ignore is considered b) old forum software is fucking awful.

I love Discourse and hope everyone switches to it.

This is not a problem in the sense that COVID-19 is a problem, but when I have the forum in split screen on an iPad and use keyboard shortcuts to navigate through the five related posts, it starts repeatedly scrolling the view up and down. Very confusing and nauseating although the cursor position from the keyboard navigation still works. Does anyone else have this?

Oh yea.

It’s also an issue that the the bottom of the
Typing area gets
Covered up by this bar
That pops up when using the iPad
So that you can’t see what you’re typing

Since yesterday, I am not seeing some of the threads in the forum, but people are still replying to them and I see them in the main forums section, the last three threads list.

Not in this forum list…

Is there a setting I turned off or something?

Maybe you muted those threads? Only thing that comes to mind.

Holy smokes, you’re right. I never noticed the mute button before. Still no idea how I muted them, certainly did not intend to …:(

I’ll look in my profile and see if there is a setting to find all muted threads, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
