How do they do this? All of CGW on the web?

Seems to be the latest issue entire here:

The pictures ain’t there, but everything else seems to be. Is this just brazen article piracy, or do they have some kind of deal with ZD?

I guess so. There’s a “content provided in partnership with ZD” logo on the page.

Kind of cool, actually. No more ripping open plastic baggies at the supermarket to read this stuff!

So that’s confirmed? No new classes in the WoW expansion?

:?

At Blizzcon, the developers stated that there would be no new classes in the expansion.

Lorini

At the Character Class discussion panel (which was really just a Spanish Inquisition from what I could tell) they essentially said they wouldn’t add new classes until they got the old ones right.

Chris Woods

But that’s just the beginning. Blizzard is also adding two new playable races, one new profession, a slew of new high-level dungeons and raid zones, a new level cap of 70, and much, much more.

That looks like a new class to me, unless “profession” != class in Greenspeak.

Profession is crafting skill. Specifically the jewelcraft thingy for socketable items.

A profession is a tradeskill in WoW. The expansion profession is gemcrafting, which is supposed to go with socketed items.

Yeah, profession is not a class. Although I thought at least hero classes were still possible in the expansion? Or is that out as well?

Yeah, I read a little further and it spelled that out. Darn.

The definition seemed really vague on what a Hero Class IS to Blizzard.

They are going to:

  • Increase the level cap to 70
  • Extend all the ability trees by 10 levels so that you can have a “41 point” ability (Mortal Strike, for example, is a 31 point ability)

From listening to them, it sounded like the “Hero Classes” may have just meant those extra 10 points on every ability tree in the game. Maybe someone else got better information, but it seemed really vague to me.

Chris Woods

If so, that is really disappointing. The original theory – and maybe this is just something I made up in my head after hearing their vague predictions – was that you could literally choose like a specialist class at 60. Not that you would get a single new ability (and even that, only if you maxed or mostly maxed a particular tree). I suppose it’s possible that the “41 ability” will do that (e.g., a Rogue might get “Master Assassin” as a 41 ability, which gives various bonuses and penalties to really change the class), but that seems unlikely. Too bad. I was looking forward to more class differentiation at high levels.

What the heck? Why did you guys hijack this into a WoW thread?

Count me as one of the people who want to know how FindArticles.com is actually doing this and if it’s illegal or not.

Irritating. No bylines on the older stuff:

I interviewed assorted people at Blizzard, and they’re being particularly cagey about it. Hero classes are that secondary-differentation thing, like - oh, I don’t know - a fighter specialising as a Paladin in some standard RPG. How they’re going to do it… well, they’ve being really vague. They’ve said that they won’t be doing the “three choices when you get to a certain point”, as that would make effectively 27 classs to balance. But something else…

One thing they did say when someone asked them whether it’s worth putting in this much balancing for the relatively small proportion of your fanbase who’ve hit level 60 when they have 4.5 million subscribers… well, the quote was that they envisage hero classes being accessible to people other than the elite. Which would imply that it’s something that can be gained earlier, and is in addition to the extension of skill trees to cover to Level 70 rather than being the extension of the skill trees.

I suspect with the amount of fog around it, however, any and all this would be extremely subject to change.

Maybe because there’s an article about WoW in the magazine?

That was answered in the first post. Honestly, do you engage your brain at all when you post here?

I’m interested in cross-publishing and wanted to get more details that’s all, no need to get touchy.

Since this thread has already derailed from the topical “how can they publish this stuff”, can we have a discussion on thread derailing? I mean, I’m sorry, if you wanted a WoW thread linking to that article, it would have been easy to start one of those, so you know, people could FIND IT when they’re looking for info on WoW.

I guess this is a discussion on the WoW expansion now, cool.

How many of the 4.5mil customers have 60s? A hell of a lot is my guess. Its really easy to level and the end game is where the content needs to be. On my server, over 20% of the characters I have recorded with censusplus are 60s. That is a lot of 60s.

The 10 extra levels sort of surprises me though. IMO they would have been better served with something like EQ’s AAs. They already have a lot of balance issues with the current talent trees, and they are going to be adding 10 more character levels and more talents to the existing trees? Good luck.

I also want to know why Alliance PvE is still easy mode compared to Horde. When will that be addressed? Fear Ward and Paladins kick the crap out of Shamans when it comes to PvE stuff.

Multiclass perhaps?

I am kind of disappointed with the new expansion (at least from what I have read/seen). It seems really like an easy way out nothing innovative considering how much fun WOW is compared to other MMOs.

  • Add 10 levels - bleh.
  • Add Blood Elves - bleh they look just like reskinned NE…
  • Flying mounts - cool! But they are zone restricted :/
  • Add Jewelcrafting. /shrug.

When they added more levels to EQ that killed the game for me. We will see with this one.

Adding 10 levels doesn’t seem like a game killer to me. What I’ve discovered through WoW is that if I really like a game, achievable goals are always good. Just give me something to chip away at when I feel like it and it keeps me going.

My biggest disappointment with the expansion is the lack of new classes. I t can be fun to reroll, but I want new classes to reroll into.
