Human Stain (spoilers will probably ensue)

I saw this today. I was rather ambivalent about it. Without putting in any spoilers myself (although it’s hard to really discuss some aspects of the movie without them), I thought it was an interesting, if somewhat unbelievable, story. The actors were all top-notch, but I thought the two leads (Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman) were both miscast, Hopkins horribly so. And I wasn’t sure what the very last scene was supposed to mean.

All in all, interesting story, effective use of out-of-sequence storytelling, great acting, but too many weird distracting moments to really make a great movie.

I read the book long ago, and I almost choked when I heard who’d been cast for the leads.
