New manga bundle someone might like:

I just read volumes 1 to 16 this week from my library. They were interesting.
No idea about the other stuff, or if the later books are any good.

Not right now. New deals come up all the time though.

I liked this post, will have to check it out. :)

Nice find, I totally forgot to check the bonus games this time. Sounds fun!

Hey Park Boy ended with a whimper, not a bang, but it was still worth playing for a day or two.

I don’t really understand where these Humble extras come from. Is this a demo of something still under development? Is it a game that was practically abandoned, so Humble bought it for the trove on the cheap? Very curious how that deal gets made.

PSA: next billing day for Monthly is 29 Jan.

Almost forgot to pause this month.

Thanks for the reminder…been on the fence this month, can’t quite decide.

I canceled entirely and was then given the $99 a year deal by email while it wasn’t live on the site.

Anyway, do we know why the featured games are decidedly worse since the IGN acquisition?

I didn’t notice so much a drop-off in quality in the months after the IGN acquisition as much as the passage of time. It’s likely that larger developers making bigger-budget games are asking more than Humble can do to bundle their titles in a lot of cases.

And thus and so, of course we know what the answer is in the end here. It’s the answer to pretty much every question ever posed in the commercial market sphere: money.

Read an article on ars about ‘dark patterns’ and the first thought that jumped into my head was that Humble Choice’s hoop-jumping for pausing/cancelling falls into their sphere:

A common example is the digital obstacle course that springs up when you try to nix an online account or subscription, such as for streaming TV, asking you repeatedly if you really want to cancel.

The law defines a dark pattern as “a user interface designed or manipulated with the substantial effect of subverting or impairing user autonomy, decision-making, or choice, as further defined by regulation.”

Is the Humble method going to go bye-bye?

I think I was more amused by Humble’s 20-question interface for pausing/cancelling than thinking it as malicious, but I supposed it can be thought of in that way for people that are susceptible to all the ‘are you sure, here’s a coupon’ interruptions.

As an aside, I’m happy to have cancelled my subscription and, considering the bundles are less of a draw, too, my game buying has plummeted in the last couple years. I don’t feel I’m missing out on anything trying to move back to the buy-a-game-and-play-it pattern.

Well, I failed to pause in time so I ended up with the January Humble Choice Classic bundle. Trying to decide which to keep and which to give away. Have already claimed Ancestors: the Humankind Odyssey and Tales of the Neon Sea for myself. Anyone tried Total Tank Simulator? On the fence about that one (it looks nice but I hear it’s unoptimized), PC Building Simulator, Not Tonight, and Warhammer Chaosbane.

One Step from Eden is great, the Zwei games are very good Falcom fare.

Overall, the humble bundles have had their backs broken and made humble these days.

When is the February reveal? I thought it was on the last Friday of the previous month?

Nope, it’s always a week after the auto-charge for the old bundle, so the first Friday of the month.

If anyone buys into the Humble Gaming together bundle and has a dupe of Blood Rage that is the only one I’m missing, having gotten a bunch of Asmodee stuff in prior bundles. Let me know if you want to trade for something cool or a player to be named later.

Last 30 minutes if anyone was still undecided about january. Having played some of the games now I’ll rate the month with a meh. Only a few were above average IMO.

Predictions for the next:

  • Carto
  • Star Renegades
  • Bulletstorm
  • Operencia
  • Donut Country
  • Greedfall
  • Space Crew
  • A Knight’s Quest
  • Serious Sam 3
  • Blood Knights
  • Zombie Driver
  • Bound by Flame

I am ready to be equally disappointed and pleasantly surprised.

Prediction score: 0.

Heard good things about:

  • Outward
  • Valkyria Chronicles 4
  • Trine 4
  • Lovecraft Unknown Stories

Extra is “Co-Open”. Google fails to find out anything about it.

Kinda pleasantly surprised.

Wow what a good month for ME personally. ;)

After your prediction bummed me out, I may actually activate my subscription this month :-)

Outward has potential. I’ve been interested in Trine 4 since I think they went back to their roots after Trine 3, which was pretty bad. I usually don’t like JRPGs, but I’ve been told Valkyria Chonicles 4 may have some appeal outside of JRPG fans. I’m probably in. If I didn’t already have Endless Space 2 it would be a no brainer for me.

That is a great collection of games this month. I already own the ones I was interested in, but that is a ME problem. Wonderful for those who don’t.
