I wonder if that would even apply in the damages phase of the trial?
At least some of these texts were supposed to have been disclosed though. Jones committed perjury claiming there were no relevant texts and he never used email.

Given that it’s a civil case, most lawyers are saying no.
Jones could sue his lawyer afterwards, but there is no exit for your lawyer being incompetent like there could be in a criminal case.

Aren’t lawyers required to supply any information requested of them by the judge or by a pre-trial order? If they don’t they can be held in contempt or worse?

You would think so. This lawyer seems to be in some trouble. He clearly withheld documents relevant to discovery and not claimed as privileged, and he didn’t turn them over, until he accidentally did.
