And a few hours later, it was working again. I think I read in the manual that the system can shut itself down due to excessive heat buildup, but if that’s the reason it happened that’s nuts, because today it was maybe 66 degrees. Yes, the car is black, and it was parked in the sun, but jeez.
I’ve gotten a 5 qt Mobile 1 synthetic and a Mobile 1 filter for < $30 on a fairly regular advanced auto parts deal… At wally world it’s less than $30 for a 5 qt jug of Mobile 1 synthetic. It’s 10 mins to jack up the car and do the oil change… Paying $150 for an oil change is absurd. Not just that, I don’t trust shop mechanics to use the right oil, filter, and torque the plug correctly. talk about peace of mind, it’s diy.
A lot of modern cars were intentionally designed so oil changes in the driveway are difficult. Filters in hard-to-reach places, oil change interval nag minders that cannot be reset by the end user and so on.
Older BMW were really nice about this - last one I drove had a drop-in cartridge oil filter that sat near the top of the engine. You open canister, you take old one out, you put new one in and you were doing with a filter change.
