We had a cat that did that once with a bat. My siblings and I were all using towels to try to get the bat that had flown into our house out the front door and it was turning into quite the debacle and then the cat leaped up from out of nowhere and settled the matter in one fell swoop.

My cat did that yesterday but with a butterfly. The six year old was NOT pleased.
