Yep. One needs support, the other doesn’t care. Of course, the one which needs support is built like a brick shithouse. He’s super solid.

I think every cat is different in terms of what they’ll let you do and what will make them freak out.

One of my cats will let you pick him up in any position. The other hates being picked up at all. He will kind of stay calm if you let him sort of put all paws firmly on your chest, but he’s not happy about it. And any attempt to roll him even slightly onto his back causes a freakout. Lifting him up by his armpits will make his back paws start to scrabble against your arm.

I’m convinced he had a scare when he was a kitten which caused him to be really paranoid about being on his back. It triggers some primal fear in him. So we just let him sit where he wants and pat him how he likes.

Less talk about cats, more animated gifs of cats.

All this cat talk is making me wish I had cats again. Partner’s damned allergies…

Ugh, that sucks Jerri. I’m a relatively new cat owner (only had mine for a bit over four years), but I can’t imagine life without 'em now. hugs

Really? Holy cow! That’s even more fucked up.

With regards to the cat deactivation, it’s apparently been studied, is painless, and has been dubbed “clipnosis”.

On top of that, the cat in that gif is clearly annoyed. Cats are pretty good at signalling when they don’t what you’re doing. Ignore the message at your peril.

My relatives used to do that with our cat Ozymandias–they’d try to rub his belly or pet him in ways that he didn’t like (he had a bit of arthritis, so he really preferred to just have his ears scratched), and they’d keep pressing on despite his growing signs of annoyance, and then they’d act all surprised when he flipped out on them. And then they’s turn to me and be like “Your cat is mean!” And I’d just shrug and say “You had it coming.”

Alright, jokers. The cat’s name was Birdy now that I recollect. He had to be “fixed” after the incident (not related to what occurred, more about his propensity to spray in the neighbor’s condo), so when I referred to the cat as Fuzznuts, that’s what I had in mind. We have no terms of endearment here in Chicago, just stuff like “Hey youse!” “How ya doin’!?” Like that.

Get a hairless cat? Or didn’t they genetically engineer a hypoallergenic cat a while back?

They are super duper expensive, usually.

I have Oriental Shorthairs and my allergic partner does very well with them. They are very clean and do not shed alot, and they are indoor cats.

They are also pretty expensive (as cats go).

EDIT Oh hey Gifs

Yeah, former roommate of mine was allergic, too, but owned two Oriental Shorthairs. Never was a problem. Had paid 350 Euros per cat though.

That’s not so bad, my sister-in-law has those fancy cats that are bred from African Savannahs. They’re a bit pricey, but they also tend to be nicer to the allergic.

i’m allergic to allergies
