Most of the time those are just bluescreens behind the newscasters. They have a camera pointed at some empty office or the like that makes the newscaster look like they’re in an office rather than on a sound stage. So odds are that these people are just doing something in a room and then suddenly get told/realize they’re on the air sitting in the copy room or whatever.

Yeah, but a bluescreen is a pretty obvious sort of thing. So don’t walk in front of it when the red light is turned on and the guy or gal in the suit is projecting and when the producer says to everyone in the room “all right we’re on” or whatever it is they say when they come back from break…

Funny, as most basketball players I’ve met can’t wrestle (and vice versa!), which makes sense since the seasons overlap so it’s difficult to do both. I guess Judo runs on a different schedule.

Here’s the video, which goes a few seconds longer. You can see the newscaster smiling uncertainly, probably because everyone on the other side of the camera was cracking up. Then at the end you get an instant of “WTF?!” before it cuts back to the main newsroom.

Apparently the girl in the background was trying to use the printer after an all-night study session, and was unaware of the filming. She discusses it on her blog, which I believe is here (link is blocked at work, so I can’t verify, but that’s what a google search of her name brings up).

Apparently the video going viral got her a brief appearance on Ellen. It’s a cute bit.
