Yeah, I get that now that people have pointed it out to me. I just didn’t think of it on my own, and I never would have linked it all together on my own. I thought the totality of the thing was a dude shooting a lazer from his mouth. I wouldn’t have looked up the history of the without someone pointing it out to me, and if I wrote the article for Know Your Meme I wouldn’t have thought to put the black face part in. I didn’t realise it was an element of what was going on.

So… Noted for future reference.

Excellent. Let us celebrate this new understanding by getting back! on! topic!

Ha! I love the panicked high-stepping there.

I’ve had days like that.

“How bad?”
“Bad.”
“Does it still run?”
“It does.”
“If it runs, it can’t be that bad.”

Those evil dastards at Johnson and Johnson.

What’s that from?

I’m going to have to take your nerd card my friend and ask you to step away from the forum.

Thx

Rings a bell, but I can’t place it.

Edit - The Last Starfighter. I thought it sucked.

My cubicle does that. It’s neat. The walls are plastic, but only one side of the plastic is frosted, so putting up a piece of tape “fills in” the rough plane, and allows the light to shine through.

He’s a wizard!

You think crab gives a fuck?

He doesn’t.

Hah the last time i saw that movie was a long long time ago :(

There is blackface in White Christmas from 1942. You don’t have to go back that far. Heck, the Jazz Singer is 1927… though it’s kind of surreal given the discussion that happens while the lead is putting it on.

Hey, look at that:

Blackface was an important performance tradition in the American theater for roughly 100 years beginning around 1830. It quickly became popular overseas, particularly so in Britain, where the tradition lasted longer than in the US, occurring on primetime TV as late as 1978 (The Black and White Minstrel Show).[4] and 1981.[5]

So in Britain, blackface persisted through the 70s.
