So I got one of those “You reported an SSN for an employee that doesn’t match” letters today. We are currently in the act of shutting the company down. The letter is actually about as non-threatening as the IRS can be. It asks me to check the info and make a correction if need be. Since we only had 4 employees last year, and only 1 who was new, I can assume which one they are questioning. Unless I screwed up someones SSN that is.

And yes, the new guy was Hispanic, and a member of a union. I had always assumed the union would screen out those kind of problems.
