Today I heard an anti-vaxxer Trump supporter blame measles outbreaks in the US on illegal immigrants, railing about how we need to keep them out of the country so his kids don’t get sick.
There’s no point to this story other than I felt the need to share because my head is about to explode.
Well that’s an abuse of scripture. The same chapter from Revelation to which he’s referring says New Jerusalem walls will have gates that never close.
I had not noticed the details in this story (from a while ago) that she was a regular at the border checkpoint and had her passport with her as she literally crossed the border daily to go to school…

Under Japanese law the cops can arrest and detain anyone for up to 48 hours without any due process. They just have to think you committed a crime.
And yet, unless something has changed recently, if I’ve heard right, plea bargaining isn’t a thing, so flipping lower level criminals to get the goods on the bigger fish doesn’t happen.

They want to “follow the law”. That sounds nice. But the law in both intent and effects have been racist for a long time. It’s like saying the civil right was about state’s rights. Yes, the state’s right to own slaves.

The other pillar is demand for low-skilled labor. The current system, as Sharpe explains frequently and well, leads to a two-tiered labor system with a pliant workers for construction, factories, slaughterhouses, restaurants, etc. Wanna pump some foam insulation in the attic? There is room for a somewhat rational racist system if you squint from a native-born low-skill population. It is easy to blame people who are willing to work for less. Not that the companies would ever consider paying people more, you bloody commie.
