As influenza spread through migrant detention facilities last winter, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that U.S. Customs and Border Protection vaccinate detained migrants against the virus, a push that CBP rejected, according to a newly released letter to Congress.

The CDC recommendation was revealed in a letter from the agency to Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro (D-Conn.), chair of the House Appropriations subcommittee that oversees funding for the Department of Health and Human Services, which includes the CDC. The agency’s director, Robert Redfield, issued the letter Nov. 7 in response to questions DeLauro posed last month after the flu had taken a toll on migrants in U.S. custody during the past year.

“CDC’s recommendations are clear: flu vaccines should be administered to people as soon as possible to prevent the spread of this deadly disease,” she said. “Worse still, administration policies that kept families locked in cages for extended periods of time greatly increased their risk of illness.”

Officials with CBP have never provided immunizations for detained migrants and does not plan to do so now, according to Kelly Cahalan, an agency spokeswoman.

I’m old enough that I went to schools where they actually taught American history, but comments like this make me wonder if that was just sheer luck, that I caught a good teacher in a good school, and that most people don’t know that, for most of American history, it was mostly OK for white people to kill Mexicans or African-Americans or Chinese-Americans or etc; so that, as a result of bad educational luck, they don’t grasp that some people still think it is, including one who recently got elected President by like-minded folks.

Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek said footage of the incident showed she intentionally hit the 12-year-old boy, who is black, about an hour before she hit the 14-year-old.

The boy was walking along the curb of a Des Moines apartment parking lot when an SUV jumped the curb, ran over his leg and fled, police reported.

A witness told police the SUV “gunned its engine” before the driver struck the child and that she’d seen the driver in the complex before.

This young lady probably didn’t fully understand the impact her actions would have.

I saw this story on the TV news last night and just assumed a dumbass redneck white guy in Oregon had attacked a “dark” complexioned Latino woman, until I realized the picture was of the attacker.

This woman, according to the report I saw, was just released from jail for another violent assault. The crazy comes in all shapes and types.

McDonald just finished post-prison supervision in July after pleading guilty in a 2014 attack on a nurse.

Nurses and food truck operators…No expert here, but this woman doesn’t sound safe for society. Perhaps when they send her back in she might need to be a long-term resident in whatever prison she lands in this time.
