More than any other organization ICE culture must be changed. The view immigrants as their enemies as opposed to their customers for those who are trying to enter legally.
I don’t condone but I do understand why corrections officers view the folks they deal with as adversaries. A lot of prisoners, are awful human beings, and given the chance would kill a correction officer and not think twice.
A a sizable minority of people cops deal with our also bad people
Despite Trump BS claims, the number of immigrants who are bad people, is below average. Most are here to work hard, and build a better life for their family. Something almost all of our ancestors did.
We need cops, and prison guards. But for the first 80+ years our country we didn’t have immigration law, we didn’t need ICE. We actually survived just fine until the 1960 with smaller, far kinder ICE than we have today. I’m a lot more sympathetic to defund ICE than any similar chant.
And as added bonus abolishing ICE will cause Trumpster to go fucking bat shit.

ICE was founded in 2003. It’s not like we can’t manage without it.
We already have Customs and Border Protection, who have their own issues to be sure, but they’ve also been around for over a hundred years.

I imagine the room was equally silent when Hitler proposed the Final Solution. It’s just pure evil.

Some of it is evil.
I suspect a large portion is simply crippling cowardice.
Wasn’t sure if this should go to BLM but this thread has less volume. Tl;dr Customs Border Patrol in El Paso is filled with racists.
A 26-year old consulate official has been continually harassed and flagged for secondary inspections. 2/3rds of all entries she was flagged when her white colleagues just get waved through after 5 seconds. After complaining to a manager, the inspections seemed to have intensified.
By early January, I felt like I was experiencing more questioning and more overtly hostile treatment each time I was pulled into secondary inspection. I was regularly laughed at by U.S. officials as they asked my citizenship and my job. I would present four forms of identification—my diplomatic passport, U.S. passport, ID granted by the Mexican government, and my SENTRI card—which were regularly waved away. Officers would say they didn’t believe I worked at the U.S. Consulate and refuse to even look at my documents.
One time, an officer told me, which I wrote down: Just because you say you work at the consulate does not mean that you are not smuggling drugs into the country. I asked him to explain. He responded, I don’t know, but I do know what drug dealers and smugglers look like. He stepped forward, crossed his arms, looked at me up and down, and said: You know what I mean.
The following are explanations that I jotted down after encounters with CBP officers:
You have been selected for a random computer-generated inspection.
Your SENTRI card is not valid.
We do not believe that you work at the Consulate.
A Nissan Rogue is a known car make and model used by drug smugglers at ports of entry.
Where are your license plates from? (I had North Carolina plates and they had been entered into the SENTRI system and approved as part of my application.)
Is this a rental car?
We don’t have you in the system. Is this your first time crossing the border? Ten minutes later at secondary inspection with a different officer, I was asked the opposite — Why do you so frequently enter the U.S.?

But don’t call ICE Nazis as they commit literal crimes against humanity.

Holy shit, ICE. Can we deport the people responsible instead? Like to Mariana Trench or something?
The correct solution to a small but important portion of America’s problems is to put all current ICE employees into the cages they’re currently keeping innocent immigrants in, and give said immigrants control over ICE in return.
