But I was assured Biden had the most progressive platform we had ever seen!
I was talking to an immigration lawyer (a very anti Trump one) a week or so ago and she said that some of the stuff Trump did is not so easily undone with a penstroke or executive order. She anticipated that Biden would not be able to restore the status quo ante instantaneously. IANAL, and I can’t recall the whys and wherefores, but this news brings that conversation to mind.
One of the valid criticisms of the Trump EOs is that Homeland Security found out about them on the news.
To get new EOs implemented properly, they need to be transmitted to the correct people in DHS to be turned into policy and procedure.
…but, I think we can expect Trump appointees and the subordinates who were willing to go along with them to slow-roll, interpret in the most minimal way possible, and do all the things a bureaucracy can do to limit action when it comes to Biden EOs. Additionally, a lot of shit that the DHS and ICE did (e.g. prosecuting all border crossings as felonies and mandatory separation of families, accelerated deportations) was implemented as changes to internal procedures, and didn’t come directly from an EO in the first place.
So… the Biden admin is going to need time to replace the whole layer of political appointees, and they will need time to clean house. This seems inevitable, sadly.
The GOP’s entire plan since the loss is to gum up the works as much as possible to sabotage Biden’s presidency.

They literally deported a murder witness who was helping them with their case.
Also she’s been in America basically her entire life. But ICE is happy, so I guess that’s what really matters. They’d rather have mass murderers than brown people apparently… which is probably accurate.
