Come with facts or don’t come at all.
Jiang is usually a good reporter, but this question was absolutely embarrassing. I would say about her, in common with many WH reporters, that she was far too credulous in reporting DJT’s bullshit.

I get which team everyone here is on - and I am too! - but this seems like a routine journalistic interaction. She was challenging the administration to respond to the words of their opposition. This is normal. Do we imagine that a journalist has to believe every politician that they quote?
That kind of question is also an opportunity. That one was almost a softball, a set up for Psaki to hit out of the park. Which she did. So why is anyone upset?
When someone apes Trump’s words as though we are supposed to take them seriously, the whole world gets stupider.
What you describe is normal. Phrasing it as “Americans are saying” is mimicking the oppositions dumb-ass style, too. That isn’t good journalism.
Not initially. If she would have come out of the gate stating “Trump says…” and then asking her question no one would have batted an eye.
What she said was “Americans are saying…” when the only American saying that was Trump, she was pressed on it and then admitted her source was Trump. That is an issue and speaks the integrity of the questioner.
Except that is not what the reporter said. She said Americans were saying… and when asked which Americans, then admitted it was really just Trump.
