Unfortunately, the governors cannot do the other half of comprehensive reform, which is a path to citizenship for those already here (that requires federal action). So if governors tried to impose e-verify on a state level, they would disrupt their economies and cause enormous human suffering including family separations. It’s a catch-22. The only solution is through Congress and the GOP in Congress has prevented any progress for decades.

Yep. This policy is “temporary” which is telling. That means permanent until either political conditions improve (GOP shuts up) or number of economic refugees decrease (with looming climate disaster, unlikely.)
