Interesting Graphs of US Wealth Inequality

A friend of mine shared this link: I’m curious to see what folks around here think about the article:

http://www.businessinsider.com/15-charts-about-wealth-and-inequality-in-america-2010-4#the-gap-between-the-top-1-and-everyone-else-hasnt-been-this-bad-since-the-roaring-twenties-1

My first thought after reading the “15 mind-blowing facts” is that… there are still people who don’t know that these things are happening?

That…is scary stuff.

I’m more frightened by the existence of so many people who don’t know that it’s been happening for rather a long time.

Its what happens when you don’t have effective unions fighting for you, and effective politicians that tax the wealthy enough.

But hey just sayin

Clearly the author has an axe to grind: “The gap between the top 1% and everyone else hasn’t been this bad since the Roaring Twenties.” When any reasonable news organization would lead with something like “The doers are finally starting to get their fair share.”

I just listened to a great show on CNN, “America’s most trusted news source” where they gave the markers of “i.o.u.s.a.” a full hour (maybe there was more! my pvr cut it off, darn) and the message was clear: we need to focus on entitlements and that damn Obama administration and socialism. Oh and I’ll be darned if I am going to leave this huge debt to the cute-cute 5 year olds they trotted out.

Who am I going to trust? “America’s most trusted news source” or some random rag? I think the choice is clear.

The most effective union out there drove (ha!) its industry into the ground.

So you want the same pay as the chinese gets an hour? Its fun being chinese magnate, when you get dirt cheap labour, but sell the produce to rich countries and reap the full benefits.

Just sayin

Obviously, if by “reasonable” you mean papers in the pocket of those in the top .01%.

What’s the fair share of The Doers"? Why, it approaches 100% if you ask them!

Yeah, if it wasn’t for the lazy workers they employ they would be REALLY rich by now

That industry (in the US) drove itself into the ground. Foreign companies make better cars because the dominant US automakers sat on their laurels – even firms in places like Europe with better labor protection.

I saw what you SUV there.

By reasonable I mean “most trusted” or perhaps “fair and balanced.” There could be some overlap between the organizations which are recognized as such and the slant of their reporting but I can’t back that up.

They are the Doers! They get stuff done! So all stuff should be theirs. Why should people who don’t “do” anything get anything?

So what you’re saying is that people outside the top quintile are “not doers”?

Didn’t you know being born rich makes you a doer?

Like Paris Hilton?

I think he’s saying ‘woosh’.

I’d do 'er*

*Not really. I couldn’t resist the joke though.

Who’s going to consume when everyone but the producers are poor …?

I heart Huzurdaddi right now, but I fear he may have crossed the line too blatantly this time, and his Colbert is showing.
