One factor that can help Sony save money is that since Cell is being positioned for use in a variety of devices, there is a potential revenue stream from chips that had too many defects to qualify for the PS3, but which can be sold as 6 or 4 SPE Cell chips to other customers. For MS, any of those CPUs that have a dead core are just garbage. This would actually be an incredibly significant change to the economic situation of console production as there’s never been that kind of secondary market for the parts.
