The Waterdeep expansions are listed at 2.99 each on the in game store. It that also discounted? Are they worth it?

I don’t know if they are discounted but they are essential IMO since the base game is a bit on the simple side.

One of the games on sale is Empire for $.99. Tom really liked it, as did Pocket Tactics.

I got super excited when I finally saw an article that interested me at Pocket Tactics (sorry Owen). This one was about Galaxy Trucker. A quick trip to BGG confirmed it was a popular boardgame, which don’t seem to be coming out on iOS very often anymore. But it was just a tease. Release date is September.

I did think it was interesting they are planning on a separate asynchronous mode for iOS:

The implementation is taking two routes: simultaneous real-time play and asynchronous play. I was lucky enough to play the current build a few weeks ago and was amazed at how much simultaneous play felt like the board game. It is very much like sitting around the table and playing, except you never have to stand up to reach tiles on the other side of the table. The asynchronous system was developed specially for the app so players could play this very real-time game asynchronously. It involves action points and tiles shifting to rows at the top of the screen and it seems to work, but definitely misses out of the frantic mess that you’d expect from Galaxy Trucker.
I remember Soren talking on a 3MA podcast I believe (and I’m sure others have said it) about the need for specific designs and changes to fit async play instead of just making a 1:1 conversion of the boardgame.

Who knows if it will play well, but it’s promising for iOS boardgames in general that someone is paying attention.

I think Vlaada has said that he’d like to bring his other games to iOS as well, but I won’t swear to it.

Anybody pick up Dungeon heroes the board game for ios? Had always been tempted to get the physical version but too many other games on my wish list. Would like to play against anyone that does! In short for those that don’t know one player has four heroes that each have one special power while the dm lays a variety of tiles (monsters, traps, items, etc.) and tries to prevent the heroes from getting three out of four treasures.

I hadn’t heard of the iOS version or the physical version! How did both sneak past me? For what it’s worth, Tom Vasel gave the physical version a positive review.

And I now own the iOS version, so let’s rumble!

Well, this game in particular needs an adjustment on that front because the boardgame has real time elements (there will also be an in-person real-time multiplayer mode, they say). I hope it’s a good adaptation. Galaxy Trucker is one of my favorite boardgames.

RainRaven, what’s your Game Center name?

Hmmm. So I saw good reviews for Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake and bought it this morning. I’ve barely begun, but only a couple hours later I see a Joystiq post pointing this guy’s blog where he claims MAMBC ripped off his art. Here’s a comparison he made, spoiler-tagged just because it’s a huge image:

"

It’s…close? I don’t know, I’m a bad judge of this, but if I knew about it earlier, I would’ve held off on buying the game until we know more or get some kind of response from the MAMBC side.

Honestly, I think they’re both using established art styles. “We both have skull mountains” pretends that there were no skull mountains before. Similarly, I’ve seen the simplistic lump-mountains before, and the cartoonish monster designs. If someone has a legitimate claim to plagiarism, I’m pretty sure it’s someone before this guy.

It really doesn’t look identical, as he claims. Art direction is similar, but I don’t see 1:1 matches.

Gah. My iPod’s just bricked itself. First time that’s happened to me since the clickwheel days. I think this one’s in warranty, at least.

Yeah, I agree where he claims “identical!”, it really isn’t, and I don’t think either of them broke new ground on the art style, but when you consider all the elements together, it’s harder to ignore. So that’s why I was curious what everyone here thought.

Having some fun with Storm Casters right now - similar to Heroes of Loot, another action RPG-lite game that I liked last year. Much better graphically and a nice card mechanic that keeps you wanting to play just one more level.

I was all set to play plenty of dungeon Heroes and have been sidetracked by World of Tanks Blitz. I played a bit on PC eons ago and thought it was good but didn’t have the time. Blitz seems to be the right amount of time, battles aren’t longer then ten minutes and so far the f2p aspect seems as gentle as the PC version seemed to me though maybe my inexperience is making me miss some aspect. In all a good first impression!

Gentle? I was thrown into a battle where everybody had fast moving hard hitting tanks while I only had a wreck. And when I got someone in sight, for some reason I wasn’t able to fire. The controls are fine, but the game itself seems absolutely geared towards p2w. To be fair, I haven’t played the PC version, but as someone new to the game it left a horrible first impression.

Hold off on playing Dungeon Heroes in online mode, as games are frequently corrupted. Definitely wasn’t tested enough.
