It isn’t a really a pay to win game, especially not any more. I would suggest giving it more of a try, as you probably jsut aren’t used to how the tanks move and how they are controlled. You have to use cover very effciently. If you want to stop someone moving fast, shoot them in the tracks and it stops them dead. Plus, different tanks from different factions have different speeds and damage. German tanks have a decent mix of both, American tanks are quite fast but not as armored and don’t have as much firepower and Russian tanks are the other end (at least I think thats how it was in the pc version when I played)

We got some good Ascension news today. The game is staying with Playdek and a new expansion is on the way.

http://ascensiongame.com/stone-blade-and-playdek-renew-partnership-ascension-coming-to-android-this-summer/

I’m not going to say I predicted this, but it did seem crazy to look a gift horse in the mouth like that. No matter what kind of cut you have to give up to Playdek, you ought to take it and run.

It could be at the time that Playdek wasn’t interested in doing Android and PC versions of the game, which forced Stoneblade’s hand. Or maybe Stoneblade wanted all the spoils for themselves. Either way, it’s hard to know the truth for any outside parties.

My main concern is that outside async play with friends, Playdek’s online implementation is terrible. For example, trying to get good games with “randoms” is pretty near impossible, and I suspect that’s not going to change, which is a bummer because I would love to just set aside, say, 1 hour to play Ascension live, but in all these years with Playdek’s app that has not been possible due to the lack of any good matchmaking system.

I wonder if Star Realms was a factor since it is coming to iOS too, and the implementation is supposed to be very good (according to Pocket Tactics).

And don’t forget that Dominion is finally going to come out on iOS from Goku! (…snickers)

Eh, as much as I like SR I doubt it. First of all, Stoneblade had been negotiating with Playdek for months. Second, SR is currently pretty basic (think Ascension base game) so it doesn’t have the same longevity (until expansions anyway). Third, Ascension Online got a lot of flak, but it was just as playable as Star Realms. I think the new art put a lot of people off (including me) and other minor UI issues that made it look worse in comparison to Playdek’s version. SR is much cleaner but still has some (minor) issues of its own. And, finally, it’s not like people can’t play both. The base game is free (not sure about SR’s final pricing though), and expansions are fairly cheap.

If anything, I was wondering if SB was feeling just as much heat from Hearthstone, Magic and when Dominion may actually come back to iOS as well. That’s a lot of games that are unique in its own right but are all competiting for our time and our thumbs.

Well, art issues aside, I really enjoyed Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake. The difficulty ramp up nicely and there is a decent enough story to go along with the game. It reminded me of a casual RPG/Adventure game with puzzles instead of combat. The puzzles are basically navigating the landscape to collect cake or other macguffins with an ever increasing party of monsters with unique abilities (which, consequently you need to solve certain puzzles).

I hope Sounas and Sleep Ninja games gets a chance to settle the art thing out, but in the meantime, MAMBC is definitely a fun little game.

Ingress was released on iOS today:

I know I wanted to check this out - one of the few android games that iOS didn’t have :)

Panzer Corps (Panzer General remake) has had a drop from $20 to $10. Matrix games rarely go on sale so pick this up if you want it.

What puts me off is the number of $5 add-on scenarios. The “complete” collection is still $80 with $10 discount, since the DLC remains full price.

Panzer General was indeed a great game, but I thoroughly played it out, and I’m not sure this brings much new. The reviews don’t make it sound like it does.

It sounds like the give me everything addition is only $60 so with the $10 base game that should be $70 not $80. It is a significant outlay of cash I’ll give you that. I don’t have any of the expansion packs but they don’t seem to be priced unreasonably. The base game is usually $20 and comes with 26 scenarios. The expansion packs are only $5 and come with 14 scenarios each.
I will however agree with you that the game doesn’t bring much to the table if you’re thoroughly played out with Panzer General. On the other hand, if you’re new to the series then this is a great introduction. Actually, this really makes me wish that Unity of Command was out for the iPad.

Uhh, so, there’s a Guardians of the Galaxy game out. Wait, come back! It plays like the original Battleheart, complete with loot, skills, unlockable characters, the works. Here’s where it gets weird. It costs $4.99 . That’s… all. There is no in-game store. There is no “energy” bar. You just…pay for it, and you have the game. I don’t get it either. Anyway, I’m having a great time with it so if you like Battleheart, The Guardians, or both, give it a shot.

I know these games have been mentioned previously in this thread, but just a heads up for those that haven’t tried them yet, both Dungelot and Dungelot 2 are currently free in the App Store (full versions, not the “Lite” versions).

I downloaded the first one yesterday and played it a bunch. Fun little roguelike. I haven’t tried the second because it wants me to update my iOS to version 6.0, which I haven’t yet done. (I’m still using an iPad 2, and it gets slower and slower with every iOS update, so I avoid doing so until the last possible minute - such as when a crucial app I use requires it.) But the first one runs perfectly fine on 5.1.1.

Breach and Clear is now free also.

If you’ve ever said to yourself, “I like Hearthstone, but I wish it were set in space with cool 3D spaceships and pew-pew” then check our Star Admirals.

It’s not only free-to-play, but also “free-to-win”. Is that a thing now?

Yeah, it’s been popping up a lot lately. It’s basically supposed to allay the worries that free-to-play games end up being designed in such a way that you need to do some in game purchases to be competitive with other players.

Just reminding everyone about the League of Leaguelets, which is in a new, very friendly format. You simply say what games you’re interested in and all challenges are assumed to be for the league.

Games currently being played are Lost Cities, Nightfall, Disc Drivin, Carcassonne, Lords of Waterdeep, Small World, Star Realms (soon), Duel of Champions, Ticket to Ride, and Frozen Synapse. Feel free to join even if you just want to be in one of these leaguelets! And feel free to join and suggest a new game.

I had no idea that’s what that thread was. I avoided it because of the assumption it was League of Legends related.
