A few issues yes
Clunky combat, and I’m not sure how this card system really works, also I see little difference between cards, and I got a bit of everything…
It’s pretty smooth otherwise, and these limits haven’t upset me much as a single match can take a while
I think that one reason there are a lot of similar/identical cards is the crafting system, where you are supposed to combine two of the same cards, which aren’t in your deck at the moment, into an “evolved” version. Or, alternatively, any card not in the deck can be broken down into components for the Forge. Unfortunately, the interface is a bit hard to read in terms of telling at a glance which cards are in your deck and how many there are of them, at least for me it’s hard to see. Also, you apparently have to have 30 cards (or whatever the limit is; right now it seems to be 30) in your deck, and no less, and you can’t even leave the deck screen without 30 cards in your deck, so sometimes it’s hard to hop back and forth between screens trying to craft or figure out stuff.
There is some cool stuff here too, though. You can equip some weapons that give you benefits like overwatch fire. Jumpjet packs can really be fun. and the look is pretty nifty. But I’m not sure I like the IAP pacing/cost.

Another release today: Star Wars Galactic Defense! A star wars themed tower defense, with plenty of kingdom rush type features such as mega-powered units you move around, towers that spawn melee defenders, a cartoony feel to the graphics, and rpg elements between missions. It’s F2P, with the typical energy/facebook harassement/gem system in place. I have only played a handful of missions but it seems bearable (at least so far), the premium currency can be earnt through achievements (of which there are copious amounts), all facebook stuff can be avoided, and you can play 6 missions before the game starts annoying you about energy. If you play in short bursts I think it’s fine.
Most importantly, the game is fun so far. From my first impressions it seems like one of those titles where the publishers have a strong view to vacuum some of that sweet F2P money, yet the devs actually tried to put a good game together. Of course, no innovations on tower defense so if the gimmick of star wars isn’t enough to pique interest the gameplay wont.

Two games I am enjoying are Monster Strike http://us.monster-strike.com/howto/ It’s like a cross between Puzzle and Dragons and Pinball. It supports 4 player co op online as well. Fun little game which has knocked PaD off the top of the charts in Japan.
Also Seabeard - Which is a soft launch in Canada which I have been playing with for the last couple of days, nice little animal crossing style game, shame it’s a freemium game rather than a one off cost as it’s a nice little game as well. http://www.gamezebo.com/2014/10/14/seabeard-release-date-end-of-2014/
And one more follow-up, it now saves progress everywhere. To anyone who was sorta intrigued by this but who I might have talked out of trying it before, I’d say Card Dungeon is officially worth your money now. Some of the camera issues persist, but they’re annoyances, not deal breakers, and saving everywhere is what finally made it workable in small doses.

For those of you trying to kick your Puzzle and Dragons habit, look into Dr. Who Legacy (also available on Android).
The basics are identical to P&D: you build a squad of characters, drag orbs around the screen, activate special powers, kill a few waves of monsters, and maybe collect rewards. There are a few significant improvements, though:
-
No timers. Grind all day long for that rare drop. You’re a Time Lord, after all. Clocks are meaningless.
-
No storage. As far as I can tell, at least. You unlock each character once, and that’s your only copy. You don’t upgrade (evolve) them through cannibalism, instead you use various reward tokens that accumulate seemingly without limit in your TARDIS.
-
Tricky opponents. Basically, almost every level in the game is equivalent to a “Technical” in P&D.
-
In-game documentation. Looking for Rose? Right before you select a level, you can see exactly what might drop in that level. When you finally reach Season 5, you’ll see Rose’s icon on the level where she might drop. No wiki necessary.
-
In-game documentation, part 2. Want to upgrade Rose? Tap her to see which tokens you’ll need. When you have the tokens you need to upgrade any character, that character will be highlighted and you can upgrade in one click. No way to screw it up.
-
Doctor Who! YMMV, but I find the theme more appealing than the weird P&D mythos.

Adult Swim always seems to crank out pretty good but great looking games, and I really have enjoyed “Day of the Viking”. It’s not all that sophisticated but it looks and sounds fantastic and has a very artistic sense of lighting and ambient environment.
For those interested, Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition is available on iOS. I’m thinking my iPad mini might be too small to play comfortably. Has anyone played this or the Baldur’s Gate games on the mini? Was it easy to read and navigate the UI?

XCom Enemy Within is coming to iOS:

Does that modify the base game? I.e. if I purchase this for my iPad and restart the original game, will this simply be integrated into that or is this a separate game you play after completing the original?

It’s a totally separate game, play it anytime you want, no link to the original game.

Hmm. Just picked up IOS Enemy Within. It’s endlessly repeating the splash screens on both my iphone and ipad. Bummer. Anyone else having trouble?
Edit: Working now (??)

So does this mean enemy within for iOS makes the old Xcom obsolete? I don’t have the old one or xcom at all in a portable form, but I was thinking about it.

The new one contains AFAIK both the old Enemy Unknown and the new Enemy Within, and I think they even removed the old Enemy Unknown from the App Store.
Starbase Orion
There are people over at Pocket Tactics looking for a PT v QT3 game of Starbase Orion - 4 players on each side. I’m trawling here as this thread is more active than the old Starbase Orion threads.
Anybody here interested and wants to be the point person for QT3? If so, let me know by PM or reply and I will make the connection to the point person at PT.

For over three years, now, this game has never gone on sale. What would you say to someone (like me, for instance) to convince him it’s worth $7.99?

It’s basically the only fully featured 4x game on iOS. And it’s pretty damn good. If you like 4x, then it’s easily worth the money.
I haven’t played it so can’t speak from personal experience (I made the post because I’ve been the PT contact for previous Qt3 vs PT tourneys).
I do know that people whose judgement I respect over at Pocket Tactics really like it and usually have a multiplayer game on the go. Plus it has been continuously supported and enhanced by the developers who have listened to the feedback on the game - the most recent update is dated 20 Oct 2014 and the game was released in 2011.

I play a lot of starbase Orion, i also play in the league, i will happily represent qt3.
Also, its better than master of orion 2, by quite a bit, its in my opinion the best 4x right now…
