Yeah, so, I’m done with DomiNations. It’s not because I didn’t enjoy it, because I did. But I was just hit with a nasty bug after viewing the “Making of” video linked to in my in-game mailbox. Upon returning to the game, my upgrading-to-Iron-Age city was gone, replaced with a Bronze Age city containing all level 1 structures (mine were fully upgraded), and a Wonder that was different than the one I chose and not fully upgraded. So, yeah, deleted.

OUCH. I lost a whole army in a raid where they just stood in one place and wouldn’t attack, but that’s much worse. Did you try fully shutting down the game and starting it back up? Seems surprising that the server data would get permanently corrupted like that.

Backs slowly away from “Making of” video message.

Seriously, sorry to hear that. Any way to contact support and let them know? Maybe they’ll reward you with a 1000 crowns to help restore your base!

Yup. Solutions included closing the app and restarting it, rebooting my iPad, and deleting and re-downloading the app. Nothing worked. And when I launched the app for the first time on my iPhone, it gave me the choice between starting from scratch or using the corrupted save. So, the server data has been, in fact, corrupted.

I thought about doing that, going so far as to peruse their forums, which, as far as I can find, there’s no mention of this bug. I still might.

There’s a game coming out next week on iOS and Android (actually in soft launch in some countries on Android) that I’m really looking forward to called Dungeon Link. It’s yet another f2p social rpg with the usual trappings (collect/enhance/evolve units & superdeformed, hyper-sexualized characters), but the combat looks pretty nifty. You have multiple units on a grid, each with a defined start and end square and you draw paths in the grid to attack. Attacks can be chained together and using every square on your turn performs a special attack. I’ve watched a fair bit of footage and, at least early, the game seems rather generous with currency, and the timers don’t seem like a major issue (though it wouldn’t shock me if that got worse later on).

I mention it because if anyone is interested, they have a pre-launch signup where you get a fair amount of goodies when the game launches.

Thanks Misguided, I’m a sucker for trying out these kind of games. Unless I really dislike the mechanics, I usually last until the paywall really smacks you in the face, which depending on the game has taken anywhere between hours and months.

I think I’m done with DomiNations too, but more because I can’t really see where the game is. Unless something changes dramatically after the classical age, I’m not making any interesting choices at all. I suppose there’s some game in laying out your “base”, but it’s not something I’m willing to sink a lot of time into.

Yeah, the strange thing here is that on top of the dual currency, there’s also a vip system where real money purchases give you extra xp/gold etc, but it all seems rather mild in the scheme of things. I like the puzzley nature of the combat, I just hope there’s a little more depth than what I have seen to keep it interesting.

Terra Battle was rather good in that respect, but the game got so damned grindy later on and the restrictions on when you could farm for certain things made it so you had to plan your day around when you were going to do certain things in order to have a chance at making progress, which is silly.

Yeah I really dislike when certain levels/items etc are limited to specific times of day. The combat here does look interesting and the better the mechanics the longer I’m willing to put up with the FTP limitations. Here’s to hoping its good!

Spiderweb’s Jeff Vogel (old school RPGs) saysfarewell to Apple and iOS.

I haven’t tried any of his games on my iPad. Did they work well?

I assume his reference to iOS 8.3 breaking the engine refers to his development engine, not the existing games… so they still work?

They became a little janky with the introduction of iOS 7 - what once worked on my iPad 2 became super jerky. They seemed fine on my newer iPad. I certainly understand his frustrations, however, I suspect with the major Apple ecosystem changes of the past year (Swift introduction, etc.) that things likely will settle out in the coming years and he’ll probably return to the platform.

I have a couple of his games on iPad. They work pretty well.

I’m not sure what he’s referring to with the 8.3 change. I could see the 64-bit change being a backbreaking issue for some folks, but I don’t think that’s tied to 8.3.

Apparently, the way the daily dungeons work is that the reward changes each day. But the good news is that it is a guaranteed drop, so no playing through the whole thing multiple times to get what you need ala Terra Battle.

Here’s some questions I asked over on Toucharcade and the answers:

I guess my biggest question (and this may not be easy to answer) would be in regard to how much depth there is to the combat system. Is there more to the system beyond choosing your team carefully, chaining attacks, and using all the squares to get Perfect Attacks? It looks like great fun, but I’m hoping there’s even more to it than that over the long haul.

Perhaps you could tell us about the Boss Raid mode? I don’t think I’ve seen footage of that.

Also, how do drops work for the daily dungeons? If I want to evolve a particular character, will the requisite fairy drop on a certain day of the week, or is there a chance for it to drop at any time, etc.

Great questions! To answer…

Depth of the game:
At the beginning, the goal of the game is obtain a party of 6-star heroes and, like you mentioned, always attack with Perfect Attacks and Chain Attacks. However, as you progress through the game, you’ll find that you need to use specific heroes in order to beat certain stages. This ties in somewhat with choosing your team carefully, but there is an element system where, in particular situations, using a Wood Type hero might yield better results (cause more damage) than using a Fire Type hero. Each character also has their own set of skills that help out the party, whether it’s by reviving, healing, damaging, stunning, etc. There will definitely be continued depth as we release live updates of the game after launch!

Boss Raid:
The Boss Raid mode is based more on skill, as well as the strength of your party. Unlike regular dungeons, you’ll need to get as many attacks in as possible, within the allotted time of one minute. After completing a Boss Raid, the users will be ranked based on how much damage they dealt to the Boss. Rewards will then be given out according to the ranking of each individual user.

Daily Dungeon:
The rewards for the Daily Dungeon are set. Different types of fairies are guaranteed to drop each day. On top of getting that day’s fairy as a reward, you’ll also get medals, which count as currency used in the shop. The medal shop will give options to purchase items such as heroes and runes.

Let us know if there’s anything else you’d like to know about Dungeon Link!

Dungeon Link is supposed to launch worldwide today, but there’s some disconcerting news. There was apparently an update just before the servers went down for maintenance that included some significant changes to the rewards and IAP pricing. From what I had seen in video, the game looked quite friendly in that regard, but not sure how much impact this will have. Hard to tell without playing, but there are some open beta folks that seems not too pleased:

Thought you could get away? Nope!

Here’s what they did in a secret patch just before the 3PM maintenance:

-Increased PvP medals required to trade in a 3* fairy from 300 to 750.
-Decreased Raid Boss Lv.5 4* fairy reward to 3*
-Decreased Raid Boss Lv.6 4* fairy reward to 3*
-Decreased Raid Boss Lv.7 5* fairy reward to 3*
-Changed Event prize from 4* water fairy to 3* water fairy.
-Changed Event prize from 4* fire fairy to 3* sword fairy.
-Changed Event prize from all 6* runes to 5* runes.
-Minimum gem purchase in shop is set at $6 dollars. Seriously? Almost all games have a $1/$2 option for casual Free2Play to chip in once in awhile when they’re happy. This is too desperate and will lead to your game making less profit and eventually shutting down services. (This was 1 patch before)
-Increased the number of Support Medals needed for 4* fairy from 20 to 25 (you get 5 medals per week).
-Increased the daily dungeon key cost from 240 gems to 1000 ($50 dollars)
-Increased revive cost from 20 gems to 100 gems ($6 dollars per revival, is it worth it?)
-Increased monster strength in all floors of the tower.

Positives:
-Added 50 more floors to the tower.
-Increased PvP Gem rewards for everyone.
-Added a top10 category in PvP to reward spenders.
-Increased VIP %EXP/Gold benefits

Couldn’t find it on the app store on my iPad last night for some reason. It shows up in iTunes on my laptop though.

Yeah I looked last night on my phone and it didn’t show up using the search. I did get the email with my bonus code this morning though. Looking forward to downloading it this evening and giving it a try.

I played a bit, I like it but it will depend on the timers etc. Still it is something a little different.

The App Store index often lags behind a bit (stuff is there but won’t show up in a search). I haven’t come remotely close to running out of energy (swords yet). I still have way over the normal max because I keep getting more as rewards. Eventually that has to dry up, though. So far, the only thing I’ve gotten above 3* is the 4* from the pre-reg. I’m working toward combining a couple of junky 3*s, though. I wish there were a log of some kind. I got an item in a dungeon earlier and have no idea what it is. There’s no inventory as such, but different things are sequestered away in different parts of the menus. So, for instance, if you want to see what rune removal items you have, you can’t until you actually go to overwrite a rune, then you will get the option. Actually, just figured it out…it is a wood medal, which you can see in the shop under the hero tab.

I’ve been trying to find something in the vein of Puzzles & Dragons (with all the card collecting, art, etc) but with gameplay that I actually enjoy. P&D was great for a while until I dreaded actually playing the levels. Will give this a go tonight now that I was able to add it.

By the way, my code is 384-564-944

Feel free to add me.

Yeah, Rowe, this is quite different from P&D gameplay wise. see what you think.

If you folks think this is worth starting it’s own thread, I will.

One last thing, if you haven’t messed with the tower of Tribulation yet, you should. You get decent rewards in there and I have already unlocked two NPCs that recruit free heroes for you periodically.
