I think they deserve the buy anyway; the free updates for Plague Inc have been incredible IMO.

Plague Inc is also down to 99 cents; I may grab that also.

Are maps replayable or if you figure out an optimal strategy on a given map will it work everytime the same?

I haven’t played enough to find out. The dev is active on the Touch Arcade forum, so you could pose that question there (I think I’ve seen you around those parts).

I’ve been know to drop by from time to time…

Now that’s comedy.

So, I’ve played Spell Tower and Pocket Run Pool before but otherwise never really paid much attention to Zach Gage’s games. But I’ve finally downloaded Flipflop Solitaire and Sage Solitaire and they’re great!

They all have superb design, and all provide some fun and interesting twists on classic games.

My favorite part? They’re all free / ad-supported, and have a single in-game purchase of around $3 which fully unlocks everything in each game and gets rid of ads entirely.

I’ve only played a game and a half, but it’s mechanistic enough that I’d be surprised if the maps had much replayability once solved beyond using different difficulty settings or leaders.

I’ve been playing Bad North since it came out a few weeks ago for Mac, and I think it’s brilliant. It amazes me how many little decisions there are to make with what seems on the surface like very few moving parts. There are only three kinds of units (archers, pikes, swords), for example, yet I keep discovering new ways that they work alone or work together, and how the terrain affects these interactions, and none of these discoveries were telegraphed by the game. I had to discover them.

I’m also a huge sucker for variable play areas – in this case, the islands. Every time an island generates on screen, I really do feel like I’m somewhere that no one else has been before. Sort of a Minecraft vibe.

If you think you’d like this game, I promise you that you will!

One complaint I’ve heard voiced multiple times, @Dave_Perkins , is that the game’s too short. Can you comment on that?

I really like the idea of Bad North, unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be iPod compatible and there’s no Android version.

It’s visually stunning and I think I will like it. It’s not an iOS game, is it?

That “a new world nobody else has ever seen before” was my favorite aspect of the Civ games.

I still haven’t beaten it, but I’ve seen the final island on the map each time – and then my soldiers fell with its image in their eyes – and this journey has taken about three hours of gameplay each time. I therefore cannot understand this complaint you’re hearing.

I almost didn’t buy it because I’d much prefer to stay the heck off my computer as much as I can, but when I’m playing it on my laptop, I am so happy. And afraid. I love the dread that builds as I make my army better, and better, and am doing fine, but… noooooooooooo!

I also love the blood that stains each island. Once, I’ve returned to re-play an island and the bloodstains were still there. I shouldn’t spoil such nice surprises as this, and I’ll stop now, but it gives an example of the care that the designers have.

Rebel, Inc.

It’s only two bucks, and looks to have a lot of content.

Basically you’re something between an NGO and Governor-General tasked with pacifying the wilds of Kafiristan though spending money in development grants and programs and changing the native population’s minds about … whatever administration you represent. There is a bit of interesting military management, in that rebels do not fight directly but need to be “boxed in”; they retreat if you send in the ground forces.

I just wish it were turn-based, like Plague. Not my beautiful cake, but sure others will like. And before anyone asks, yes, I know you can pause. I have played it.

I’m not sure how Plague could be described as turn-based? The clock is continuously running I thought.

Sorry, been a while since I played. The new gameplays more like a real-time game to me in terms of trying to outflank enemies and such. I hope that makes sense.

Oh I see. I was wondering if there was something I had missed in Plague all this time!
