Well, I just noticed that The Pathless came out on Arcade. Seems like the kind of thing that would be good with a controller, and the reviews have been pretty good.

Oh really? Was watching footage of that last night and it seems really cool. I had stopped my Arcade sub, but we are going to pick up a one sub, I think.

Tried The Pathless tonight. It definitely stands out from the rest of the Arcade games. Looks and sounds great, but I’m not sure it’s what I am looking for. Got kind of bored running around shooting trying to figure out how to get places. Should probably give it some more time, but it wasn’t drawing me in.

I tried it tonight, too, and it’s not the kind of game I’m going to play on the phone with touch controls. Didn’t get far enough to really understand what it was going to be exactly, but someday I’ll give it a try on PC.

I ordered a new iPad and it’s arriving tomorrow. We are taking a trip on Saturday and travelling by train to Chicago, D.C., and New York, so I will load some games on the new iPad. I was wondering if there is a good way to play PC games on the iPad?

I’ve seen something called Rainway that looks interesting. There’s Apple Arcade, which doesn’t look very interesting. Would Stadia work? Gamepass seems to be invitation only right now. So anyone do any PC or console gaming on their iPad?

Get Apple Arcade, get Clap Hanz Golf, never buy another game ever :O

Steam Link? Probably local network only though.

Rainway seems to work a bit like I think Steam Link works. The game plays on my PC but is streamed to my iPad. It’s free so I may experiment with that. I do own XCOM for iOS and a few other games, so I do have some options. I just have so many games in my Steam/GOG/Epic libraries that it would be nice to play one or two of those.

I use Steamlink with my iPad and a PS4 controller. Did need to set up a custom resolution for my computer to match the wacky resolution of my 11” iPad Pro.

AAAAH, so someone else IS playing it! I will second this recommendation.

I do wonder how well many games streamed to an iPad will actually play with a 100% touch control scheme. It’d be an interesting experiment - one day I’m going to try setting up a Windows 10 VM in Azure and see what it’s like - but I suspect getting actual iPad ports might be more fun and less frustrating.

Buy the Baldur’s Gate series on iPad and have enough content for multiple weekends!

In my experience, it has been mostly disappointing.
A bit like the reverse is disappointing as well: games with controler support on the iOS are quite good at making you feel like you’re not supposed to play them there.

I hadn’t touched the arcade for six months and blinked twice when I saw this. Then I launched it, and it was really Everybody’s Golf, complete with the patented horrible voice works ;D

I think you’re right. Between books and TV/movies I don’t really need that many games.

Doesn’t that mean you have to pay subscription if you want to keep playing it?

I don’t know: you take the plunge and cancel it and see if you can still play it or not. Too scared to try ;0

There is some really good games on there. The “classic” games especially are completely addicting. It’s definitely worth the money for a month or two.

I love the Hot Shots Golf franchise and played quite a bit. I think I am up to level 6 on this. I am fine with the change in the way you hit the golf ball versus the traditional three button tap thing. But I am not finding that this grabs me as much. I don’t feel that my control is the same or that my technique effects my play in the same way. This could be because I am doing it wrong, I guess. I’m still getting plenty of birdies, so it’s not that however I am doing it is making my game suffer. I also find the progression and unlocks to be fairly boring. Maybe it is a bit less arcadey, but not enough simulationy, so it isn’t satisfying either itch. Dunno

I never enjoyed those as golf games per se, because they were just golf themed arcade games (but so were the Tiger Wood games past 2000 to me).
The choosing of clubs, the effects on shots, are so over the top they ruin it for me.
But what I do enjoy is the hole’s design and how they ask you to make decisions, or even take gambits, which is an aspect of golf that is really exciting, and I think this one gives those aplenty.
The swinging mechanics is probably misleading, because it isn’t all flick-action based like most games on phones; you can move your finger almost slowly to achieve some precise swings as only the front swing matters: it gives you too much control, in my opinion, but effects like backspin still need to be applied as a flick.

I hadn’t realized that the extended edition Neverwinter Nights had made it to iOS until last night. But not only can I play NWN on my iPad, it’s currently on sale for $1.99.
