They’re included in the base game for the physical version of Elder Sign. Unlike Items and Spells, Allies provide a benefit that can be used multiple times before being discarded from play. The updated rule book for ES:O details Allies in the section for the new campaign. But I haven’t read it, yet, so I don’t know if they’re implemented differently.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I might have to pick up the new expansion :-)

Did Tom ever review Elder Signs for iOS? I have it on my wish list but I’m not sure why I haven’t bought it yet. Sometimes a game will have one fatal flaw that causes me to dismiss it for now since I don’t want to play too many iOS games – no iPad version, or a bad interface or something.

Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright Trilogy HD is out now. First two episodes are free, and each episode of the trilogy is 5.99 or 6.99. It’s 16.99 for all 3, so save 3 bux by buying them all at once.

Anyone give it a shot? I’m starting to be really sad that many of the newer games don’t run on the original iPad. Looks like I’m gonna have to upgrade soon.

I’ve picked up the second game, having already rebought the original on iOS a while back. Sadly, but totally unsurprisingly for Capcom, there’s almost no effort put into making the port iOS friendly. You can’t even speed up the text, which is a crime in a game like this, and without a B button to press, it’s actually slower to redo bits of the game you’ve already seen than it was on DS. At least, unlike Ghost Trick, you can play your own music and the save system isn’t totally borked. It’s well worth picking up if you haven’t played the games before, or even if you have and don’t mind paying for exactly the same experience (but ever so slightly worse) again.

Was playing the Sid Meyer WWI air combat game on my iPad, and had the thought: Sim Golf. That would be a GREAT game on the iPad.

As would Red Storm Rising and Covert Affairs. How hard could it be to port them over - the iPad has much better graphics and a better CPU than the old Apple ][ I used to play these on.

I’m sure there is a review. I remember him talking about it a lot, both in the forums and on the main page. The game itself is pretty good. My main complaint (now, at least) is that it is strictly a single player affair. You control all 4 characters, so I guess in theory you could do pass and play. Other than that, it’s a fairly accurate port of the board game. IIRC there were a few things that were omitted (like only one elder god to choose from in the original version) but overall it was pretty faithful port.

Ginger, I don’t have it, but couldn’t you tap and hold on the DS version to speed through text you’d already seen? Maybe that would work here? It would be extremely obnoxious if that doesn’t work, as there are spots where paging through all th text again if you screwed up would be brutal.

It seems like there are some meaningful differences but it’s hard to put my finger on them because a lot of the opposition turn stuff is handled opaquely by the game. In any case, if you enjoy Elder Sign you’d probably enjoy this implementation, it’s got a lot of nice cosmetic bells and whistles plus the multi-stage Cthulhu, Ithaqua, and Dark Pharaoh campaigns. I myself find it somewhat frustrating as I can never seem to roll what I need and you really need to be succeeding regularly to maintain a flow of the consumables that you almost have to have to have any meaningful chance at a lot of the adventures. It becomes a failure spiral.

I really wish Fantasy Flight would bring some of their other, IMHO better games to iPad. Give me Arkham Horror gussied up like this. Or Descent (either edition). Or Twilight Imperium (with async play, of course). Or if not their big ticket successful gravy trains, then lightweight stuff like Red November or (licensing might be an issue) Death Angel.

I happily snagged the new IAP for Elder Signs but wonder, are these allies and new encounters now a possibility in the previous campaigns as well or just the new ones?

A majorly annal nit pick, but I sure wish they’d have separate score boards for each campaign as I’m thinking scores in most of the tough ones will never compare to the ones made on the easy ones…or does it actually kind of even out (since the tough ones will tend to last longer and need more elder signs earned)?

I can guarantee the IAPs open up new characters in all campaigns but it wasn’t clear to me whether the other additions apply generally or just to those specific campaigns. I suspect it may be some of each.

I started the Elder Signs Dark Pharaoh campaign (on Android, but no matter). It’s a 3 stage affair. The first stage has you playing to recruit allies. I don’t believe they’re implemented anywhere else in the game unless the campaign is built around it.

Right, the unlocked investigators are free to use anywhere but allies and lingering effects appear to just be for the DP campaign.

What I’m not so sure about, however, is if some of the new adventures can appear anywhere or are all tied to the campaigns that introduced them (I assume the later since these adventures often have such situational names so it’s unlikely one would see the “Snow Cavein” in the DP campaign).

There was one time on the iOS version where it seemed like I did that by accident, but multiple attempts to repeat it have not worked.

Moderately interested. Never finished this on the PC for some reason.
Anyone tried this?

There was a standalone thread for it.

Most reviews I’ve read are mostly positive, saying the controls work pretty well on the iPad.

I’m enjoying it quite a bit so far. I played all the way through it when released, but it’s been so long I forget everything about it (except the ending).

I just remember the bad dreams and the lesbians. That and a planet got nuked and there was a droid.

This is the only thing you need to know about KOTOR:
