aah cool. thanks for the spoiler tag tips.
FWIW, I tried again and it turns out you can do a sustained press to speed things up, but the delay is so long it’s only really worth it for when you have five or more “pages” of text to go through, especially as it’s really easy to mess up taking your finger off and have to go through the whole thing again.
Maybe because it never goes on sale. Ever.

Scurvy Scallywags did finally come out. Its a pirate themed match 3. It puts enough of an interesting spin on the standard match-3 gameplay, that I’m finding myself playing quite a bit since it came out. Its got a little bit more depth than your standard match-3, in fact, I’ve started doing better since I started slowing down and planning my matches in a little better. New tiles slide onto the board in the direction you slid your finger, rather than only from the top, and there are

Apparently a gba/gbc emulator slipped into the App Store:
Has Sword & Glory been mentioned here? Just a great game, kind of a cross between Mount and Blade and a roguelike. Also free.
Oh, yeah. I played a few minutes of Sword & Glory on Pocket Tactics’ recommendation, and it seemed pretty nifty.

I can’t recommend Deep Dungeons of Doom enough. It’s a dungeon crawler distilled right down to the basics of blocking and attacking. But it’s got variety and skill trees and that awful/brilliant “one more go” itch to it. http://www.deepdungeonsofdoom.com
Scurvy Scallywags is a pretty good match 3. What sets this one apart is your character is on the playfield and you have to use matches to move him around to collect treasures and battle enemies.

Agricola has been approved and will be out on Thursday worldwide. $6.99
I and K decks will come later this fall for $0.99 each.
Same price as Eclipse and Le Havre. I was hoping it’d be a little less. I’m sure I’ll grab it, but someone give us the all-clear first.

I’m just glad it’s not more. Thus is probably the most anticipated board game release so far. Hoping for the best, interface-wise!
Okay, I’m good now. Tom got me excited about Agricola on the latest Games Podcast. I was worried it’d be a lightweight version of Le Havre, but apparently it’s even more brutal. Bring it on!

Downloading it now! It looks like it only comes with the Basic deck for now, with the I and K decks coming out later (99 cents each.) Not a big fan of them separating it out like that since all 3 decks come with the board game but oh well. Agricola can be crazy complicated when you use the advanced cards, especially if you mix in promo packs too.

Got Agricola this morning. Never seen or touched the game before. Anyone know of a good resource for beginners? Tutorial seems real basic so far.
Have you tried the videos and other material at Board Game Geek?
I had to stop in the middle of the tutorial to mention my favorite part: “To feed your family, drag the sheep to the fireplace.” But I love my baby sheep!
This game is brutal – for city dwellers.
The Agricola tutorial won’t help much. You’re pretty much going to have to read through the manual at the pause screen. The tutorial is just an introduction to the interface and some of the basic game mechanics.
Also, keep in mind that you can play a solo game. This is a great way to learn the flow of the game without worrying about other families horking the resources you need.

I tried the PDF of the manual once many moons ago, but since I didn’t have the game in front of me my brain melted while reading it.
I’ll try again now that I have the game. I did get the feeling that the tutorial was more geared for existing players getting used to the iOS interface.
I definitely like Agricola. I enjoy the extra theme of building a farm, compared to the dry building list in Le Havre. It looks like there is a lot of Eurogaming here for the money. The Solo Series campaign sounds like a great way to keep single player from becoming too easy after I crest the curve of understanding. (For those who don’t own the game, you play a series of solo games without AI where you must reach a higher score threshold each game, but you get to carry an occupation/bonus card with you each time.)
Like everyone else, I’m a little annoyed at all the scrolling in the interface. I dislike the vertical scrolling the most. If they had restricted the town to one horizontal area, it would be fine. iOS doesn’t always detect that I want to scroll horizontally and not diagonally. They don’t need to throw away their vision for the interface. Just add a vertical scroll lock setting.
