Layton Brothers Mystery Room. The gameplay is supposedly closer to Phoenix Wright than the other Layton games.

For those who enjoy Ascension:

Hi all,

Ascension: Immortal Heroes will be released tomorrow!

A NOTE ABOUT ACCOUNTS:
You will need a Playdek account to play online after performing the update. If you have already created an account through Agricola, then you just need to login with that account. There is no need to create a new account.

After you install the update, we recommend that you create your account FIRST, before purchasing the Immortal Heroes IAP. This way we can resolve any account issue prior to dealing with any other issues.

In order to link your previous game history with your new account we suggest the following:

Launch Ascension and log in to online play with the existing system BEFORE we changeover the server tomorrow afternoon. Once you have reached the Online Lobby, you’re good to go. If you’ve played online sometime in the last month, you should be already set.

If you still need to create an account (you did NOT with Agricola), when you create a new account, make sure that you are logged in with the same Game Center account you used to play Ascension with. After you create and activate their account, log in and make sure all of the stats for your existing player record have been properly transferred.

If you already have an account for Agricola, they should log in with same email/password, and make sure all of the stats and in-progress games from their existing player record have properly transferred.

If there are any issues, send email to support@playdekgames.com and we’ll get it resolved quickly.

A NOTE ABOUT DEVICES:
This update brings a number of improvements to Ascension, including 4” retina support, but with this update we will no longer be supporting iPod 2G.

If you are currently using an iPod Touch 2G, do NOT perform this update, as your device will no longer run the game.

Ascension: Immortal Heroes will be an in-app purchase for $2.99 and will require a free update before you can purchase.

Fuck this accounts on top of accounts shit. I hated it with Rockstar Social Club, and I hate it now.

Should absolutely be against gamecenter TOS.

Thanks for the heads up. I can’t wait to check out the new deck – singleplayer, that is!

I appreciate them finally implementing Immortal Heroes, but given that this version of Ascension is definitely going away when the new app hits, it seems a little unwise as a purchase. Though I guess avid players could probably get through $3 worth of games beforehand.

I have to agree. One of the things that was great about Ascension was how well integrated it was into game center. Eclipse stuck out with the extra, unneeded layer of accounts. Now Ascension is devolving.

What? I don’t see any mention of this. Why the hell would they scrap this version of Ascension?

I almost forgot about that. Weren’t they kind of wishy-washy about transferring purchases to the new game?

Yep. I Kickstarted Ascension Online at a high level, and I’m still spending three bucks because I’ll play Immortal Heroes a million times before AO launches at the end of the year on PC and Android (and however long after that it takes for the Playdek deal to expire so it can come to iOS).

Not at all. They’re not going to do it.

Definitely agree.

They decided that they wanted to stop the partnership with Playdek and build their own in house apps that they say will allow them to do more (and this will happen when the PC version hits if memory serves). To me it feels like making people purchase it again.

To be fair, I think it would be difficult for Stoneblade to transfer purchases considering that they weren’t the ones who sold them in the first place. I’m not jumping for joy that I’m buying them again, but I don’t think Justin and Co. are trying to pull a fast one. And if they actually pull off the same level of polish as the Playdek/Incinerator version while adding new features, it should be worth it.

Professor Layton spin-off Layton Brothers is out by Level 5 on iOS. The Japanese-to-English translation is pretty sloppy and full of typos. In the first 5 minutes, “were” is used a couple of times instead of “was.”

Free with 1.99 and 2.99 IAP so far.

I agree whole heartedly with this statement, and have no intention of buying any further expansions, be it from playdek or from their new app.

I feel fairly burnt by this decision, and can easily find my card gaming elsewhere if I’ll be required to pay twice for expansions I’ve already bought.

Wasn’t cross-platform play one thing they would be able to do with the in house app? That would definitely be worth it for me. And, considering how much I’ve played this game, I can’t really say I haven’t got my money’s worth.

While that’s true, don’t forget we live in the world of massive sales on downloadable games. I wouldn’t mind rebuying everything if it’s $3 for the whole mess to get onto a better platform.

I saw on another site that Stoneblade wants to get the expansions out more quickly when they move to their own system. I always thought they were holding them back to push sales on the physical product. It sounds like it was Playdek taking too long.

For those of you w/o Playdek accounts, yeah it’s kind of a beating. You have to go through the crap of picking out a new name since the one you want is ‘already taken’. Then you have to remember it forever and somehow correlate it mentally. Plus every challenge you make from then on comes across as the <playdek name> challenges you to a game instead of <GC name> like everyone wants.
The benefit of multi-platform means dick-all to me. It just complicates my life and lessens the experience. While so far it’s no where near as poorly implemented as Big Daddy’s cluster-eff solution it’s still many layers of confusion and inconvenience that are wholly unnecessary.

You mean multiplayer, right? I assume we can play single player forever on the playdek game.

I think you’re conflating a couple of things: Playdek accounts, and the replacement of Playdek’s app with an in-house Stoneblade-developed app that will be out on multiple platforms and support cross-platform play. You’re not going to need to deal with Playdek’s account system to play Stoneblade’s app, since they’re ditching Playdek.

I’m not too clear on the details, just that it’s getting pulled. You’d think so, but…
