When I was looking, the iPad 3 was at least $150 more (because used - like new and refurbished iPad 2s are readily available) and only available direct from Apple with a month or so wait, whereas iPad 2s could be had immediately from pretty nearly anywhere. A better screen I’ve never seen was a small sacrifice to make. The 2 has an excellent screen anyway, and the performance difference is evidently not significant because the hardware adjustments were made primarily to support the demands of the higher resolution.

I will say, I didn’t expect the increased resolution to matter too much. But now when I used my wife’s hand-me-down old-rez model after using my new one, the pixels make my eyes bleed. OH, THE PIXELS!
I figured, but the mistake you made here is using the iPad 3. If you’ve never used the uber-res, you’ll never miss it.

You definitely want the new one. The screen is gorgeous.
Being a sucker for time management games:
Alawar Entertainment has a huge sale this weekend probably to support their newest game “Supermarket Mania 2”.
I think time management is one of the genres perfectly fitting the iPad and all games have trial versions to get an idea whether you like them or not.
They also have some match 3 games on offer.
I agree. I particularly like the Roads of Rome/Kingdom for a Princess games. Which Alawar time management game would you recommend most, intruder?
I haven’t played the Roads of Rome games yet but from videos of them I think the 2 “To the Rescue” games are probably pretty much the same concept.
Personally I like the real estate tycoon games like “Built-a-Lot”.
Sadly there are only 2 of those games on iTunes and both are not in HD.
I got “Hotel Mogul” and “Hotel Mogul Las Vegas” Vegas is tougher so the other would be my pick for a beginner as it has a smoother learning curve.
Finally you might want to look at the “Farm Frenzy” games as the concept is pretty crazy. I think you could go with any so maybe pick the newest one like I did.
Neuroshima hex multiplayer updated submitted to apple for approval.
So close to Storm of Souls coming out? Man, feast or famine.
What is that? And neuroshima mp asynchronous?
I think the answer to your question is “yes!”
Why this, my good man!
Lots more discussion of it over in the general thread (SoS talk starts here).
About freaking time. They’ve been promising it for a LOOOONG time. I was starting to believe it wasn’t coming out period.
Scotland Yard, based on the board game, is out today for a launch price of $5. I already posted this in the other iOS thread, but it’s worth mentioning here because it has retina support!
Anyone have any suggestions for good turn based war games? Something not quite strategy rpg. I’ve seen them floating around, and I’m rather interested in trying some out.

I’m a big fan of Mecho Wars: http://tleaves.com/node/7
It’s basically “Advance Wars, the iOS version.”
Bigfishgames runs a Daily sale right now with 50% off a title a day.
Today it’s “Empress of the Deep 2 HD” a hidden objects game.

If you want a “real” wargame, I hear the best is Battle Academy. For something less grognardy, I highly recommend Ravenmark. Great Little War Game is pretty good as well, though it does take too long for the challenge to ramp up. Time of Heroes is also good from what I’ve played of it, though it does have more of an RPG layer.
