A new May league for Ascension should be starting in the next few days. It’s the perfect time to come on board!

Sounds good. (even though I know you’re fishing for cannon fodder…)

I just downloaded it. I’ve never played a CCG, virtual or otherwise. Any resources you’d recommend to a complete tyro?

I also won’t download the expansion yet, not yet knowing if this kind of thing is my cup of tea. For $0.99, I’ll try practically anything that gets as much praise on Qt3 as Ascension. For another $2.99, I hesitate.

First of all, play the tutorial, then a couple of AI matches just to get a feel of the game.

Ah, I don’t normally like things like CCGs in electronic form (the computer should be able to abstract the card stuff, thank you very much, unless you’re recreating a classic board game). But given Ascension’s insane popularity here, I suppose I’ll bite for 99 cents…

Edit: Wait, now that I see I have to read all that stuff Brakara posted, I’m losing interest again!

No you don’t! I learned by playing the tutorial, then getting my ass beat two games in a row, and ever since, I have never lost a game. Not even to anyone on Qt3. Not a single person.

Now wait a minute here. You don’t have to read anything at all. But the option to explore more is always there if you want to. The linked stuff is for people (like me) who get obsessive when they love something like this.

Edit: also, I’m someone who has never been into CCGs. But this game is incredible easy to learn, and a lot of fun to play.

Is that because you are not playing anymore? :)

No! Denny! Come into the light! All are welcome! ALL ARE WELCOME!

You, too, Clay, bandidoquest, Ephraim, and nixon66! New folks join all the time, and I’m a vet who bats .500 on average.

EDIT: Check out the Exhibition Match Thread and the other threads it links to in order to get a sense of what a match is like.

I am waiting and waiting for another good iPad game.

2011 had DungeonRaid, and I want more good games. This year has… humm… Awakening Mars, perhaps? What else? :-/

hoooooooooooooooooooooo!

Played the tutorial and a few AI matches so now I’m ready to get beaten for real! Nixon66 in Gamecenter!

I would not buy the expansion until you are fully comfortable with the original deck. After that point, it’s a must buy. It’s a great addition but for learning stick with vanilla.

Thanks!

I haven’t had the time to try the game today but I’ll definitely play at least the tutorial tomorrow. If anyone wants to add me on Game Center, I’m gutenbergn there.

So, played a few games. My first against nixon66 was embarrassing, where I did everything wrong. The next was better. My games against Justin were great, both close, 1 each.

I like it. Expansion pack purchased! And now, to return this thread to a more general iPad Games thread, how about that Jetpack Joyride update, eh? ;)

Head over here for more Ascension talk, and I’ll tell you how the first game we played should have been an absolute slaughter instead of just a solid victory for you.

Why did I ever wait so long to try out Ascension?

Because it was $5.99 and low prices are hurting the iOS industry and have conditioned us not to spend that much on iOS games?*

Anyway, I bit and bought it. Once I learn the ropes, I’ll find the appropriate topic and toss my hat in the ring!

  • Did you hear that, Rachel Brown? Huh? Huh???

Purchased. Gamecenter ID is pberger. You will beat me.

I’m ready to get beaten, too. I’m Nude Rick James in Gamecenter.
