Iphone 4 - switch to Verizon or wait for AT&T merger?

I’m running an unlocked Iphone 3GS on T-Mobile and decided over the weekend that I’m tired of the slowness; I’d like to be able to take advantage of a 4G network. So I’m trying to decide whether to stick with T-Mo for the time being and wait until the merger with AT&T or switch to Verizon.

Pros for Verizon: My parents live in the sticks, and my T-Mo phone barely gets a signal out there, but everyone who has a Verizon phone does just fine. Also, Verizon has an unlimited email/web plan for about $30/mo. AT&T does not.

Pro for AT&T: Their network allows you to talk and surf at the same time. How much of an advantage is that, really? Also, AT&T’s voice plan is a lot cheaper. Possible pro: maybe existing T-Mo customers will get something special out of the merger. I’d love to keep my current no-contract plan and switch to the Iphone 4, but I have a feeling that’s not gonna be allowed unless I bring my own phone or pay full price from AT&T.

Thoughts/recommendations? Thanks!

Well I like my iphone 4 on Verizon but I think at this point you might want to wait and see what apple has coming for the iPhone 4.5 which they should announce in the next month or sooner. As for the whole voice and data thing I haven’ t run into any issue with it yet but I imagine that at some point I might. I like Verizon much better then AT&T because well… Fuck AT&T. I had my iphone on ATT for years and I just got fed up.

The long and the short of it is if you can wait at least till June you really should. If you can’t then go to Verizon.

One BIG strike against AT&T - they don’t include messaging in any of their talk plans. It’s, like, 20 cents a message or something unless I pay at least $10 extra per month for a texting plan.

The iphone 4 cant use 4g though

Same with Verizon.

Don’t count on the merger going through in 2011, if it even gets approved.

Verizon, since what good is a phone that you can’t use at your parents? And wait for the iPhone 5, although that probably means waiting until September.

Damn, you’re right. Maybe the next one will. Or maybe I’ll go Android.

Yeah if the next iPhone doesn’t use 4G, I’ll go Android.
