I found Kometen really nice to look at and a pleasant experience for a few minutes, that’s about it. I honestly think it’s a waste of an interesting art style and some clever mechanics.

They were hoping for a May release. Cutting it close, I guess.

Edit: Aaaand, they have now changed their release date to “early June 2010.”

Just stopping by to say that, while my 360 is in the shop, and GFWL refuses to play nice with my PC, I’ve become utterly captivated by Sword & Poker on my iPod Touch.

There’s always Xeno Sola aka Starcassonne

That does look pretty cool, Adree. I’ll probably just bookmark that one for now because I still have a number of unplayed games on my Touch. To be fair to the Carcassonne guys, it looks like they met their completion deadline and simply underestimated the amount of time that is usually required for App Store approval.

Battle for Wesnoth just released another update and I think it’s finally completely won me over. The interface is still a little spotty, but far far better than the early releases. This version also fixes my biggest pet peeve by giving a nice in depth info panel on each unit with all their stats. The amount of content in the game is pretty staggering, and it’s really pretty well produced all things considered.

They also apparently added save-syncing with the desktop version, although I haven’t tested that myself.

Definitely a must have for any fan of Fire Emblem style tactical RPGs.

(Caveat: I’m on a 3GS, performance might suck for people on a 3G or earlier).

The Quest has been updated for another forthcoming expansion, Hero of Lukomorye IV.

HighBorn was just released. It’s a fantasy turn-based strategy game made by some of the creators of the original Command & Conquer. There’s multiplayer similar to Uniwar’s system, although I think it uses Facebook. I picked it up for $2.99, hopefully I’ll get some time to play tonight and post some impressions.

By the time all the expansions for The Quest come out it will have more total hour playtime content than Oblivion.

All the iPhone expansions and then some are already available for older versions of the game (Palm/PPC/PC).

Highborn is excellent, at least so far. It feels like HOMM, but it’s a very basic version of its tactical gameplay. You have a set number of units and limited combat, but tactically it’s fun because there are control points to capture that give you different units and abilities. I’m only on the second mission so I’m not sure how replayable it’s going to be: the first map is very linear as you’d expect, the second is a bit more open so later maps might give you different approaches to try - we’ll see. The presentation is excellent, with a very self-deprecating sense of humour. The battle animations appear non-skippable, but they’re generally very brief so I don’t mind. The only thing I really don’t like is the async multiplayer is tied to Facebook, which seriously sucks. While I use Facebook, there’s no way I’m linking this game to my account - it’s just not used for that. So to play multiplayer, I’ll have to set up a new Facebook account, invite anyone I want to play with as a friend, and then set it up through the game. Whose idea was that?

Using Facebook makes a huge amount of sense. What is your objection to it, exactly? Why on earth would you create a 2nd facebook account for it?

If you’re worried about it making wall posts or something, just turn that off in the options.

All right, I’ve tested krayzkrok’s resolve by sending him a Highborn challenge via Facebook. Who else is up for a game? Send me a challenge.

 -Tom

I agree with everything that krayzkrok said. I don’t like using Facebook because I have to go out and find opponents. What’s the point of a multiplayer system if I have to do that. Uniwar set the bar, and to compete in multiplayer other TBS games better emulate their system or have something similar.

The multiplayer is ruing what appears to be a solid game.

I for one use my Facebook to have a way to communicate with family and certain friends. I do not want to add friends to that account just for gaming. There are privacy concerns.

Exactly. As much as I like posting here, I wouldn’t want you guys on my Facebook.

And you use Facebook? Bwahahahahahaha

Well… not really, no. I don’t like it much. But I certainly don’t want to add people I don’t know personally in real life just to play a game.

Carcassonne is out! http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/carcassonne/id375295479?mt=8

Who’s up for some games?

Just started downloading Pride and Predjudice and Zombies by Freeverse. It’s an adaptation of a book I haven’t read. It looks like a stylish side-scroller.
