Yeah, Uniwar does mp right. And it’s weird how few other games have followed note. I know of Words with Friends, but are there any others?

Carcassonne has the same asynchronous turn style.

I would kill a man for smart phone Laser Squad Nemesis type of game.

Kill!

Any other good graphic adventures on the iPhone? I have been loving Broken Sword: DC and want more! I know Monkey Island 1 and Beneath a Steel Sky exist, but anything else?

Anything in the Scumm universe?(Scumm VM?)

The writing does suck, but once you learn the writers are Hungarian, you get more forgiving. The game itself is freaking wonderful. I feel like I’m playing Oblivion on my iPod. LOVE this game. However, it’s old school and requires some patience. Sooooooo good though. Still, Space Miner is probably the best ipod game I’ve played.

I wish it had a king of the hill/ironman/endless setting. I hear the developers are making an entire standalone spinoff game in this vein.

Defender Chronicles

I love the concept, but I suck, so I end up grinding. I played it a ton, however, so it must be doing something right.

You may r may not suck, but Defender Chronicles absolutely requires a great deal of grinding, at least to complete the higher difficulty levels. Not a fan of that decision. I can’t count how many times I’ve mindlessly done Siria just for the XP.

Fieldrunners
Pretty much just a variant of Desktop Tower Defense.

Fieldrunners benefited from appealing graphics and polished presentation and getting in early in the iPhone’s life, but the gameplay was always completely unremarkable.

StarDefense
Mario Galaxy style globes feel like a gimmick added on to a pretty standard tower defense game.

Yeah. I never understood how the gimmicky map presentation got this game good reviews.

The Simon the Sorcerer games are on iPhone, which run on Scumm. I haven’t tried them though.

Have you played Flight of the Amazon Queen?

Star Defense isn’t brilliant but it’s a solid tower defense game. The rotating planet maps are just a bonus, although they do fit in nicely with the space battle theme.

Actually, scores on iPhone Blitz are HIGHER on average than on web or PC, and the iPhone version doesn’t even have score-increasing Boosts that the other two platforms have. This gap is only going to widen when boosts finally come to iphone (in the works.)

I think a big part of it is that folks learn to play with two thumbs so they can make moves a little faster than with a single mouse cursor.

You might want to check out Rogue Planet. It may not be exactly what you’re looking for, but it’s definitely in the LSN vein.

I was grinding to finish the last few maps at the easiest difficulty. I’m pretty sure I suck.

I picked up a whole bunch of cheap / free stuff over the last few weeks. The best of them are worth a mention…

Bit Pilot - one of those very simple ideas that for some reason is extremely addictive, avoid the rocks and beam lasers while collecting shields all set to a rockin’ chiptune soundtrack. The control method isn’t exactly precise, but I think that’s what makes it work especially as it gets more frantic.

Grokkion - Super Metroid-alike, extremely unforgiving and somewhat unpolished but strangely compelling. Jury still out on this one.

Land Air Sea Warfare - one of those “I can make an RTS work on an iPhone” games. Actually it does a pretty damn good job, certainly the best I’ve seen. It’s not for the faint hearted though, and I still can’t decide if I like it or not.

Ozone - super slick maze game where you navigate all kinds of obstacles and balance your fuel with your craft’s size.

Slay - old-school strategy game where you have to take over territories with villagers and various soldier upgrades, and out-expand your opponent. Only played a few levels, but it could stay on my phone for quite a while.

Super Quick Hook - I love the presentation on this one, but it’s taking some time to get used to swinging through a level. I’m the kind of person who has to explore every nook and cranny, which is why I always prefered the Mario-style of platformer versus Sonic.

The Package - a puzzle game where you use a variety of “widgets” to get a parcel from point A to point B in an industrial complex. Friggin’ hard!

Warblade Free - I love Warblade on the PC (aka Galaga Deluxe from the Amiga) but for some reason it never got along with my desktop. The iPhone version is about the best I could have hoped for, and the control system works nicely. Only a quarter of the game in the free version, no idea when the full version is going to be released.

I’ve been hooked on Slay for a couple weeks now. It’s an amazingly good bit of game design; the way offense, defense, and maintenance costs interact is brilliant.

Krayzkrok, Warblade full is out, and it works marvelously.
Awesome shooter for the Iphone :)

Hmmm, seems Warblade has been pulled due to some nasty bug in the last patch. It’s coming back when the new version gets through approval.

Incidentally, has anyone produced an Empire clone on the iPhone? I’m talking Walter Bright’s Empire / Empire Deluxe.

FYI – there will be at least one more by this X-mas. =)

I enjoyed the trial of this enough to break my $1 rule and blow a whole $4 on it. Very well suited to the platform, and I’m enjoying it more than Space Miner.

I could have paid $20 for Slay, and I’d feel content with the price. It’s not just good for an iPhone game, it’s one of the most addictive little strategy games I’ve ever played.
