I played a lot of Slay recently, but got bored with it after a while. It takes a while to master, but it feels kind of mechanical once you do. I’m not a big fan of the way you can move your units anywhere in your territory instantly, it makes it very difficult to defend once the enemy territories get Knights and thus can defeat castles. Generally it seems like it’s all pure offense once it gets to that level.

Big thumbs up, fantastic adventure game.

Let me second that. As someone who was happy to see the pixel-hunt, adventure games genre die a quick death, this game is simply fantastic especially in both its art direction and sense of humor.

So, does anyone know if there’s any kind of semi-hardcore iPhone Scrabble/Scrabble clone community, and what game they’re playing? I’ve been messing with Words With Friends and either the player pool there is pretty casual or the matchmaking system doesn’t try to rank players. I’m not super duper great at Scrabble but I’m decent and so far I’ve only lost one game, the rest have been 100+ point blowouts.

iOS4 update for The Creeps.

LandFormer was released, you can download it for free, but it’s $2 to unlock the 50 levels after the first tutorial with 10. I bought the 50 levels after going quickly through the tutorial. Addictive, and it’s modding tools for users looks very well done.

Space Wars 3D Combat Simulator (whew!) is a new space sim in the same vein as Star Rangers, but with better graphics. Basically you choose sectors on a map to fly to, kill the aliens and slowly take over the map. You can buy better ships or spend money to upgrade your existing one, and call in reinforcements when you need help. I’ve only played a bit so far, but the controls are pretty tight and the combat is fun. :)

As long as the controls aren’t as terrible as BlackSpace (which is unplayable for me) it sounds like my type of game. The trouble with the app store, though, is there’s no such thing as “no more game purchases until I’ve finished going through my backlog”.

I just noticed that Toki Tori is out on the iPhone. I picked this up on Steam during the sale this week and quite enjoy it. Kind of wish I had known about the iPhone version, as it’s a perfect puzzle game for that platform. On sale for $.99 currently.

Also, has anyone played Giana Sisters? I loved that game on my Amiga back in the day. Curious how the controls are.

Oh yeah, even in my limited play time they already felt quite a bit more intuitive than BlackSpace.

Super Quickhook patch is out finally, and the irritating “beat a developer score to unlock this level” stuff is gone, which is great. They added a couple new levels, too.

Still a completely awesome game.

Couldn’t resist Capcom’s 1942 at three bucks… but probably should have. I didn’t notice the control issues that the reviews mentioned, but the game is graphically much more primitive than you’d expect from the 60 MB download size. Actually I think it’s simply the original arcade visuals, but they are clearly not good enough in this day and age.

Anyone tried Pro Zombie Soccer?

Warblade (full version) is back in the appstore. Chris, delete 1942 and install this instead!

And despite its lame name, I’m also enjoying Tunnel Shoot - a cross between Tempest and those tunnel racer games. I’ve read reviews criticising it for being a bit “slow” but that’s rather the point - it’s more of a shooter than a racer, relying on racking up your multiplier to really get the high scores. The enemies / obstacles come in “waves” which adhere to a certain number of set patterns, so like any shooter you can learn those patterns to get the best point advantage out of it, although they’re thrown at you randomly and you have to recognise them early enough other you’ll just end up shooting willy nilly trying to avoid the obstacles. Movement is controlled by tilt, but fortunately it’s one of the better implementations I’ve used. I grabbed it when it was free, not sure if it still is.

Highborn is $0.99 today. Despite some of the comments in this thread, I decided to pick it up. It has a 4.5/5.0 rating.

Gosh I can’t wait til this is out! X-COM inspired game for iOS called Isochron.

I just picked up Aqueduct and I’m loving it so far. Nice collision between Sokoban and Pipe Dreams. The Slide To Play review bitches about the “bland” graphics, but I actually really like the somewhat subdued hand-drawn look.

Good tip, Warblade is cheaper and much better!

In other news, Slide to Play just reviewed what sounds like the best game ever for World Cup watchers. Sadly, it’s not very good.

That looks promising.
