Ha ha, pulled past you in Warblade again! But let’s not talk about Tom Chick or Diego Gallina because that’s just depressing. :(

Diego Gallina is a phat haXX0rz!

So when I got my high score, it was because I somehow did something absurd to get 30,000 space bucks. Seriously. No joke. 30,000. I have no idea how it happened. Suddenly I’m in the shop and every single thing is available to buy. Multiple times.

What happened? I know there are achievements for something called money ships. Could that have been it? Get in here and explain yourself Gallina. What did you do?

-Tom

There’s the money bomb collectible that turns every ship into money, maybe you got a couple of those? Also, bosses turn into money and rank markers when you kill them but I’m usually too busy evading their last shots to collect those. The most money I ever had was 1,900 space bucks or so.

Tom, if you bought all those secrets in the shop I’m guessing one of them told you about the super sekrit money multiplier bonus. At least, I’ve gotten that once myself and my money started going through the roof for about 2 seconds before I died horribly and lost it. :( I’ve no idea how to trigger it again, but I’m guessing those secrets tell you how.

Warblade is such fun, btw my score is now 1,3 billion and I’m not sure I will ever loose at this stage.

Meteor race is the most fun , win it on 100% for 25 000 credits :)

Tom,

Meteor Race at 100% speed. It gives you enough money to buy everything in the store. You need to catch one of the random meteor race drop cards to start it (blue with brown / red dots). If you’re really lucky you can get one in the first 10 or so levels and you’ll be pretty set for the next 60 or so :-)

Diego

Wait, you get money for finishing a meteor storm at top speed!? I thought speed just gives you bonus points!

Saw some stuff about a new strategy game called Modern Warfare at http://www.insidesocialgames.com/2010/07/13/iphone-ipad-strategy-game-modern-conflict-brings/

Looks interesting enough to try for a buck (iPhone) or two (iPad).

— Alan

I’m pretty sure that name is already taken and would lead to legal complications. :) What you’re talking about is called Modern Conflict. And I’m not sure it’s new at all. It looks like a reskinned version of Judgment Day War, which is a pretty old formula.

 -Tom

Ah, that’s exactly what happened then! I don’t vary my speed during the meteor races because I’m not using a separate fire control. So the act of steering also accelerates me. I do remember finishing the meteor race in that game, so that’s how I ended up with all that money.

Okay, so there it is: Full speed to the end of a meteor race is the key to a high score.

More Warblade:

  1. The store tells you that you can have two armor bonuses, but that’s only true if you collect the second bonus! If you attempt to buy armor when you already have one, the money is simply lost.

[edit: Turns out this is not true, I was able to buy the second armor in later games. No idea what happened there.]

  1. What’s the effect of those funny ranks? I made captain but I don’t see any changes, either in the game or on the profile screen. Just for bragging rights?

Tried out Helsing’s Fire. Really quite like it - very unique puzzle game. Also, Jim & Frank Mysteries is still pretty fun after a ways into it - a very competent Professor Layton ripoff.

The other game I tried out recently is Enso-Dot Zen. It’s an abstract puzzle game that’s got an extremely simple concept, but very addictive. There’s a pay version as well for $.99 with more puzzles, but this Zen version will give you a nice sampling.

Hay anyone tried the iPad version of Monkey Island 2? Wondering what is the best option between iPad/360/PS3/PC. Leaning towards iPad since it’s mobile and touch seems like an ideal interface for adventure games. I’m just not sure if it’s somehow an inferior version.

Tom, your score is history. I would have happily closed on Diego had I not accidentally hit a single shot icon, which at level 89 is instadeath. Pity there is nothing to save you once that happens.

…and the high score table for rank. But knowing this game, there is a secret for everything so perhaps it’s part of some grand megabonus scheme.

Yeah, it’s nearly impossible to recover at that point unless you happen to catch a very lucky drop.

I’ve made it through the game 1.5 times (to around level 60 the second time through). Lot’s of it is luck about what you catch, no matter how well you learn the patterns.

Diego

Another vote for Helsing’s Fire. It’s quite excellent. Probably not a huge amount of longevity, but I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth.

And another vote, it’s a nice little puzzle game.

I’m sorry, but you seem to have mistaken me for someone with a lower score.

:)

-Tom

It’s like trying to catch a frog!

I hadn’t looked at the leaderboards yet. You’ve shamed me into playing more tonight until I beat somebody.
