Don’t worry, ARogan is pretty low hanging fruit.

It seems our learning / frustration curve with Warblade is following very closely the old Warblade PC thread from a few years back. So, that’s where the missiles are… Right.

Just did another 46 million game, but hardly even worth mentioning now. The random element in the game is both what makes it so frustrating and yet so brilliant.

Oh and nlanza, meteorstorms. When you pick up one of those suckers, keep the fire button pressed down for maximum boost, and watch the score tick over. You should get 10 million easily per meteor storm if you get to the end, although clearly something changes later in the game because 100 million runs are common on the leaderboards. Ah, and in fact it must be starting one with a multiplier - if you have a x5 you’ll get 50 million. So what about the other 50 mill? Hmmm…

I also bought a rank in the store and it declared “secret found”. Trouble is, it’s so secret I’ve no idea what it was. Any ideas? I’m sure there’s probably a secret for buying one of every item in the store as well.

Starwars battle for Hoth is live in the US store now.

Chain Link Pro is free for the day. It’s a great score attack game, a little like geoSpark except the emphasis is on dragging long chains of shapes together and depositing them into a central warp gate. It’s a much more intense game than geoSpark, and until you get the hang of it your games will last about 20 seconds.

Good lord, that looks awful. I mean awesome. I can’t decide.

HAH now I’m slightly higher low hanging fruit. Switching to slide controls helped quite a bit. I still can’t get through an entire meteor storm though.

Oh, good. We sure need more tower defense games!

But…but…but…it’s Star Wars! And not fake prequel Star Wars, but real Star Wars. And not just real Star Wars, but arguably the coolest part of real Star Wars.

Come on, one of you is going to suck it up and try this, right? Plus that Risk clone. I’d do both of them, but I’m fighting for my life trying to stay at the top of the Warblade leaderboards!

You need to max out your speed as soon as possible, that’s your only chance of being able to dodge sideways quickly enough. When you’re boosting at full speed of course.

Yes. Yes we do. Why do you hate fun? You’re not even Tom!

Slide to Play review: 3/4, ugly graphics, fails to exploit potential

Touch Arcade review: rough edges, inferior to other TD games

Well, maybe we don’t need this particular tower defense game…

Finally a good Warblade FAQ, linked from that thread:

Everything they say in the old thread is true, the game is highly addictive but way too reliant on sheer luck, too obscure, and just plain unfair.

Dammit, guess I’m going to have to try and catch up to you again.

I’m finding I like the non-slide digital controls, though I also can’t get through a whole meteor storm.

Looks like I need to spend some more quality time with the game :-)

So what are some of the best RPGs on the iphone? Are any of them worthwhile? I was looking at The Quest and Undercroft, which both look interesting. Doom RPG?
Doesn’t have to be first person.

Doom 2 RPG and Wolfenstein are both a lot of fun. I found Wolfenstein’s final boss to be too cheap, so I never bothered to finish it, but found everything up to that point to be really enjoyable.

Doom 2 takes the evolution of the formula and gives you three “classes” which ultimately end up playing out the same way, i think.

they’re not great games, but they’re quite fun little time wasters

The Quest is total retro goodness with alot of playtime. Undercroft Is more lighthearted and feels a bit more polished to me, the controls are better as the ones in The Quest I find.

Sword of Fargoal is more a roguelike than an RPG.

Ravensword is also nice if you like fantasy Openworld RPGs as is Xenome for your “falloutlike” fix.

Puzzlequest is also a great timewaster and RPGish.

Dungeon Hunter is a good Diablo clone I really enjoyed in small doses. Only RPG I have actually finished on the phone thus far.

It could almost be argued that Space Miner is also an Action RPG too, but I guess that depends on your definition of RPG. It is an amazing game in any event and if you do not have it you should.

These are all I have bought and played as of today.

Tom, are you sitting down?

I honestly didn’t think this game would end. I was actually pretty glad when it did! And no, I didn’t play it in one sitting - I’m glad the game paused when I put the phone into sleep mode. Sheesh.

I’m still only 273 or something on the global leaderboards, so clearly there are some seriously dedicated players out there.

By the way, that was level 698!

Hold on, is there a Star Wars Risk clone? 'Cause I’d get that.

I bit on the SW: Hoth game. I’ve only played the first two levels, but first impressions are “low budget tower defense, but worth it if you like Star Wars”.

One departure from traditional tower defense is that your guys can get killed. You can dig trenches to funnel the incoming enemies, which also protects your fragile soldiers. Enemy waves drop tokens, which you have click on to get more points to buy more rebel dudes. The tokens do help make it more intense, because they fade out and you definitely need them.

The interface is functional, but everything seems like it was meant for a lower resolution. I wound up digging trenches in the wrong spots a few times. Apparently you can set targeting priority for individual units, but I didn’t get a chance to try that out yet.

The graphics are definitely seem low-res and cheap. The pew-pew effects sound authentic, but the in-game music seems like just generic stuff. There are video snippets from the movie in between missions to heighten the atmosphere.

If I get to blow up an AT-AT later, it will all be worth it.

Anyone tried Helsing’s Fire? I love it: it’s a dynamic lighting based puzzler with some really fantastic style and humor to it. Best of all, it’s only $0.99. Worth it alone just for the fist bump you get at the end of every beaten level.
