Not to pick on you, because everyone in the world does this, but this brings up this brilliant and accurate webcomic.

Thanks for the tip, but I’m amazed Ubisoft hasn’t shut down this clone yet. The game looks like it didn’t just copy the gameplay but all of the art assets as well!

Yeah, “blatant rip-off” wasn’t hyperbole.

Maybe Ubi knows how crappily the game controls on a touchscreen that small and figures they’ll let it die of embarrassment.

so is it worth getting?

HoMM is always worth getting, crappy controls or no. The dev team keeps releasing updates for it, too, so there’s always the chance it’ll get better.

My guess is that Ubi will eventually catch wind of it and Apple will yank it, so there’s no better time to grab it than now considering it’s free.

Space Miner: Space Ore Die is $1.99 right now (60% off).

I’m working on this thread here from the back and a lot of people have recommended it a while ago (page 65+ I think) so maybe someone wants to bite like I just did.

Son of a biscuit.

I think I’m going to lose this game because I’ve completely misunderstood a rule of Samurai for the last decade.

Which rule?

How the game ends.

And yep! Good game, Hans.

(Game needs a way to send a gg via an in-game messaging system.)

Heh. I don’t know if it’s good or bad… but that was my second game ever. I thought you knew something I didn’t… but it turned out that I had understood the end move.

But good game - let’s get some more playing.

Link’s busted for me, but I think you probably were referring to this one.

But, yeah, it is ridiculous that some of these wonderful apps are so absurdly cheap in comparison to other things I spend my money on. The bigger expense, however, is often the time to investigate, grab, play, and then delete a lot of the chaff on iTunes. So in that sense, it costs more than a buck. That’s why threads like this one are so useful.

Helsing’s Fire gets entire new campaign! Monster Dash has an update, too.

Space Miner makers, Venan have their third game: Space Miner:Blast coming soon. It’s going to be free, apparently. Their other game, the excellent Ninjatown: Trees of Doom is only a buck also, and gets a lot of updates. Also, I have the 30th best high score on the leader boards for timed mode. So go download it and see if you can get to 3000 feet in timed.

I probably try more games than most here but the ones that last I tend to play for several hours, it’s almost insane how much value I’ve gotten out of some games (Space Miner, Phoenix Wright, Elemental TD).

My single most-played app is easily Drop 7. It was one of the first apps I ever bought, and because it is turn-based, quiet and ingenious, it’s my go-to app when I’m stuck in line, on a bus, or listening to podcasts. I think I paid $1.99 for it nearly 2 years ago and have easily put in 50+ hours into it. With the possible exceptions of SimCity and Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast, it may be the single best dollar-to-entertainment-hour ratio I have ever had.

Yeah, Drop 7 and GalCon were among the first apps I bought and I still keep playing them.

bummer missed this update - and now today it’s $4.99.

Drop 7 is hugely popular here at work.

It’s fun, but I don’t know if it’s $5 fun. I’ve never played HoMM but this has me about to DL HoMM3 from GoG.

I played 15 seconds of Palm Heroes and quit immediately, fwiw. And I love Heroes of Might and Magic.
