Anyone try the LOTR tower defense game?

I’ve been having fun with Sega’s new social MMO thingy, Kingdom Conquest. I’ve made an alliance called QT3 if anyone’s inclined to join.

I read good stuff about this DS game called Shiren The Wanderer. They didn’t port it to the iPhone. Is there an equivalent game in iOS that is as good?

Capcom kicks off an early Thanksgiving sale on the Appstore:
Phoenix Wright on sale for $1.99 along other games.

Touch Arcade says it’s pretty good, but… $6.99? That’s, like, real money!

Lego Harry Potter is out for $4.99 as a universal app.

I’ll bite the bullet, that can’t be a bad deal.

You can’t go wrong for $4.99.

I wonder if we’re starting to see prices creep up a bit. Seems like there are a lot of game now in that 5 to 10 dollar range. I don’t necessarily mind. I would gladly have paid more than I did for Space Miner and a few others.

I don’t mind paying more for some of these games. But 10$ is definitely a maximum for me.

I like the Gameloft model of 7$ new, then they go on sale for like 1$ after a few months. It punishes impatient people like me for buying the game at release, but gives a chance for 1$ max people to get the game eventually.

I woud have never bought Prince of Persia or Splinter Cell, but at 1$, even if they are mediocre, who cares!

Falcon Gunner is up at $5, I’m be curious to hear some impressions on that one.

Game Dev Story is now a buck off. If you’re the kind of jerk who hadn’t bought it yet (like me) do so now, fool!

Nope that game will come down to $0.99 in the future at least for day.
As long as it’s not from the big players all of them go down to this.
We also have Thanksgiving / Black Friday and Christmas coming up which will see tons of sales which might urge the developers to slash the price as well!
Capitalism! Ho!

Patience is a virtue. :)

So is scraping together a couple of bucks to support awesome iOS game developers.

Word on the street is that the port of the LEGO Harry Potter game is quite brilliant

Yeah, I’m impressed. The controls aren’t what I was expecting, but they’re easy enough to get used to and the game looks really slick on iPad. I’m pretty amazed it launched at the price it did.

I noticed another Spirit update so I fired it up again. I’d forgotten how elegant this game is. They’ve also added a new game mode where you have to trigger rifts randomly floating around the playfield instead of creating your own, and it’s a nice addition. I stopped playing this after the 1.1 update which seemed to dumb things down a bit, but I have to say it’s kicking my ass so it’s likely I missed the bit where they made it harder again. Extreme Mode is also where it’s at.

Next thing you know I’ll be firing up geoSpark again…

WarBlade got Retina Display support for free.

IconFactory’s new Astronut is also in high-rez but they cite cost as too prohibitive to redo their earlier Ramp Champ and Frenzic games. Frenzic won’t see Retina Display support until the sequel. I wonder how other, smaller devs do it?

You’ve got it on your iPad? iTunes keeps telling me that I can’t actually play it yet because it’s only compatible with iOS 4.2, which so far as I can tell isn’t actually out for iPad yet.

Anyway, I picked up SteamBirds for iPad and it’s pretty damn fun. It’s basically the same idea as the flash game you can play for free, but it works perfectly on the iPad and the dev is promising to support it with more levels. Then again, from what I understand the people who put it out also put out Canabalt and Gravity Hook and people have complained that they’ve gotten no support. Also the dev flat out says there won’t ever be multiplayer, which is too bad. SteamBirds kind of demands multiplayer. Hell, even hotseat multiplayer would work, where you secretly put in your moves and then passed it to the next person and they put in theirs and then you set it down to watch the game play out. Either way, I’ve gotten $2 worth of fun out of it.

I also picked up Dark Lords for iPad primarily based on the vaguely Patapon-esque visuals. Haven’t played it yet, but I’ve read some positive opinions. Sort of a side-scrolling RTS where humans are fighting demon armies. Also, the guy who developed it has been on the Toucharcade forums and has already released updates based on feedback.

Also looked at Civilizations Wars HD, and while I enjoyed the flash game I didn’t love it enough to drop $2 on it. If the idea of a fantasy Galcon with spells sounds good to you, though, maybe it’d be right up your alley.

Edit: In fact, I can’t even see Harry Potter on the iPad’s iTunes store. So I used my iTunes (the iPad is on mmalloy’s iTunes, which I couldn’t access at the time) to send Harry Potter as a gift. I redeem it and it tries to DL it, but then fails and tells me I can DL it next time I go in to iTunes. But, of course, when I go back in to iTunes HP isn’t there. Soooo… looks like I just lost $5.

I’m running the 4.2 GM, which is also why I can play Harry Potter. A bunch of iPad apps/updates have come out in the past week or two requiring 4.2, so Apple really needs to get a move on - once the update’s out, you’ll see Harry Potter in the store.

About Steambirds, Canabalt got tons of support - you can’t exactly add new levels, but the developers added new scenery, music, made it a universal app, etc.

running 4.2.1 here and it runs grrreat on the iPad.
