Ask us in 6 days when it comes out?
Same here. Level six is about the time Dungeon Raid decides to stop fucking around and nail my ass. I’ve played about 30 games and I lose it every time on level 6. On every difficulty level as well.
Infinity Blade is officially awesome. Just finished the second bloodline (with one restart at the castle because a level 15 death knight is pretty tough!). Best swordfighting controls in any game ever, plus gesture magic! Really addictive character advancement system, too. I expect this will stay on my iPod until I’ve beaten the level 50 god at the end.
One question: is there any benefit to keeping mastered items equipped? I just swap them out for new items to get the skill point for each mastery.

Picked up Puzzle Quest 2. It’s gorgeous, but holy crap are the loading times atrocious.

I’m a little unsure on how the mastery thing works and haven’t been able to find any explanations.

thanks for this. loving it
Hmm, the Engadget review says that mastery does nothing other than give you that one skill point, and afterward you’ll lose any XP that would normally get attributed to that item. So you should indeed just swap out items immediately once they are mastered. Somewhat counter-intuitive but apparently that’s how it is.
I wish they’d have made the decision much more interesting than that by conferring powerful bonuses after mastery. As it stands there’s rarely a reason to keep mastered stuff.
That said, they nailed the combat and graphics, and most of the questionable design decisions can easily be made stronger through minor tweaking. I’m having a blast with it despite having zero interest before the release, and can’t wait for the content update. Really glad they made it universal, too.
Axe in Face is free today. I was tempted not to post that because it’s terrific and the dev deserves your money, but Merry Christmas. I’m surprised the gameplay hasn’t spawned a bunch of knock-offs already.
Haven’t tried it yet, but Axe in Face is a great name.
Ha, I lasted long enough against the god king to get the alternative ending… very cute. Did anyone get the achievement for collecting all treasures in a playthrough, by the way? I don’t know where those missing bags would be hiding, I could have sworn I got them all.
And so I killed the god king at level 22, on the sixth bloodline. Still didn’t get the all treasures achievement. But now the game wants me to start the next bloodline with the same character… I guess there isn’t really an end? Level cap 50 perhaps?
Yeah it just loops. Hopefully the new content wont take too long.

With horrible AI. Great game to port, but I wish House Full of Games or RPG.net or some other dev who knows how to program card game AI had licensed it.
Thanks, Tracy. I find it odd that it’s Viking against Viking, but I guess the gardener Viking is a special kind of Viking, and that makes it okay. Me likey!

Well, pretty soon (~ lvl 15 for me) you’d start mastering the good stuff, especially swords and rings, and will be forced to switch to inferior items if you want to keep leveling up. That’s your more interesting decision. I really loved the second poison sword (Glimmer, or something like that) but I had to give it up.
One thing I just figured out is that you can click on the treasure bags while walking from location to location, and this seems like the only time you can get some of these bags.
Only it’s not interesting because the game is way too easy (especially if you equip a heal ring), so the differences between items don’t amount to much. I find it doesn’t matter what weapon I equip, the baddies go down just fine regardless. If there were tougher enemies with resistance to various types of damage, that would help.
I also think it sucks that I haven’t invested a single point in magic but the magic meter still recharges quickly. You can abuse the hell out of heal and shield rings without having to sacrifice anything. I was shocked to discover they let you heal for full HP without having to boost that skill at all. I pour everything into HP and Attack when I level and fights are trivial.
