Then you are much better than I am with fighting games because I defintiely do see the differences depending on my equipment. :) Having to give up that poison sword had made the fights tougher for me.
And there are enemies with resistances to various types of damage as well as enemies that deal different type of damage. You can view all that when you click the “i” icon in the corner while looking at the enemy. Again, whether this makes them “tougher” is totally up to a player, the game is very skill oriented and probably some people will even be able to kill the King with starting equipment on the first bloodline eventually.
When I used Glimmer an insignificant amount of damage was done by the poison. Using a weapon like the one that is +1 to Attack and +++Exp doesn’t make the fights tougher, it just makes them take longer (which can actually boost XP further because you rack up more bonuses for casting a lot of spells and other things).
I’m already burned out on this one. The equipment and spells are uninteresting and there aren’t enough enemy types. Punch-Out required more animation memorization than this does.
If what you want is a straight up Punch Out clone get Super K.O Boxing 2.
I like that in Infinity Blade it’s not all pattern memorization and you can often tell how to parry something just by watching them.
That’s not what I want at all. I’d hoped that equipment choices would be interesting, but they are not. I’d also hoped enemies would become tougher to beat, requiring different gear or build decisions, but they are not. I had a blast with the game until the shine wore off, and now it’s devolved into a dull exercise.
Most people don’t seem to mind. Inifinity Blade is fastest-grossing app of all time with 271,424 sales so far, for over $1.6 million total.
Good for them (seriously), but I don’t see high sales figures related to a highly-anticipated and undeniably beautiful game as a rebuttal to any of my arguments. Games can sell well and still be completely shallow, particularly on this platform.
I saw on the Indiegames blog that puzzle game Mind Wall is out for the iPhone. I hate to recommend a game I haven’t played yet, but I enjoyed the free version he made for Ludum Dare. I think it was the ominous music and inevitability of the wall approaching.
Oops, it looks like this has been out for a while. Indiegames must be behind on their news.
Inifinity Blade DLC announced. More stuff in every respect, no gameplay changes.
Next week’s pack includes five new weapons, five new shields, five new helmets and a new armor set; enough equipment to increase the level cap to 45. There’s also a new enemy type players will square off against called the “Marrow Fiend” (that’s him pictured up top). We’re assuming he loves marrow.
In addition to these smaller packs, there’s more substantial content in the works (all for free, no less).
“There will be new areas to go to, the story will be evolving a little more as you see what the God King is really up to, and we’re going to let people go down into the dungeons,” Donald Mustard confirmed. “For high-level players especially, you’ll start to find some enemies that make the [current] enemies look like nothing.”
Plus, of course, a future update will bring the addition of a multiplayer mode. While Chair declined to reveal further details about his tantalizing feature – or commit to a release window other than “coming soon” – players can expect their suggestions for the forthcoming mode, as well as for ongoing iterations of Infinity Blade, to be carefully considered.
I’m having fun with Red Nova, which has an almost Star Control 2 Super Melee simplicity to it. It’s you versus endless waves of about 7 different enemy types, each has a different strategy to defeat it. Graphics are fairly basic but it’s held up with some nice sound design, music and presentation.

Who wants a 30 hour open world WRPG on a phone? I do. A lot. The visit to the in-laws just become more bearable!!
Real Racing 2

Licensed cars? Racing on the iPhone? Awesome graphics? Sweet! 10$ is a little steep for an iPhone game, but I think it is worth it value wise.
Shadow Guardian

Uncharted iPhone by Gameloft. Sure it’s plagiarism, but look at the amazing trailer! Looks solid!
N.O.V.A. 2 - Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance

Halo iPhone? Sure… This is the second game so I hope that they improved the controls over the first.

Bu-bu-bu, I don’t like those 500mb games! What can I possibly to to waste time on the bus? Well, some other big releases are casual games!
Geared 2

Chances are, you played the first (and it is free on iTunes right now, go get it!). Vertical game so you don’t look like a child with a horizontal piece of technology between your big furry man-hands on the bus.
Hook Worlds

Remember Hook Champ and the still amazing Hook Champ 2? Well this is the new game in the series. And it looks promising!
Pix’n Love Rush DX (iPad)

Pix’n Love Rush on the iPhone is THE prettiest game on the platform for me. And this iPad version brings charm in spades with the very retro interface! LOOK AT THAT OMMGGG!!!

Triple post!
That is enough pictures for today, but more games are coming out.
Battlefield Bad Company 2
I would say wait for reviews on this one, because we don’t know how experienced they were with the platform. But it is 99 cents…
I am so weak willed…
World of Goo iPad
If you haven’t played this game by now and somehow own an iPad, then wtf man. Don’t know how this version will translate, but the PC game felt good man.
Dungeon Defenders : First Wave (universal)

Holy shit, universal local multiplayer Dota clone? Shit bonerz indeed. The trailer does this game justice, much more than the picture posted above.
Conclusion: So many game, so little space on our poor phones and iPods! I know my ABBA cds are getting off my phone to make space for these games. I will probably buy most of these games and post impressions later. I bought most from last week too, and they were all a blast. Except the Final Fantasy clone, it was very meh.
Impressions to come!
I’m waiting for Dungeon Defenders both here and on xbox360. keeps refreshing his Itunes

Roll Through the Ages is free today.
…and overpriced, from a couple minutes spent with it. The underlying game design may be solid for all I know, but the design of the app is beyond shoddy.
Thanks to this thread I am down to (count them) 37MB of space on my iPad. Bum. I may have to upgrade (and this is where the Apple Tax really bites).
